The Instructional Designer role within the EdPlus Digital Learning (EDL) team offers a unique opportunity to join a mission-driven, future-focused group that shapes the future of digital learning. This position entails close collaboration with faculty, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to design and develop engaging, learner-centered experiences that resonate with learners at all stages of life. The role demands applying proven instructional design methodologies and adult learning theories to co-create content that is both educationally effective and scalable. Besides content creation, the Instructional Designer will optimize workflows and processes to support efficient course and program development across multiple colleges at ASU.

This hybrid, in-person position requires commuting to Scottsdale, Arizona, ideally locating the employee in the cutting-edge environment of SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The workplace fosters collaboration and innovation, bringing together technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as leaders in the knowledge economy. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment or field
  • master's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, educational technology, learning sciences, education, adult learning theory, or a related area strongly preferred
  • experience in designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising online learning offerings and course materials strongly preferred
  • experience performing quality assurance for a variety of learning offerings
  • experience in applying learning theories to the practice of online course design and development
  • experience using learning management systems and/or platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, edX, Coursera
  • experience working with a variety of subject matter experts and stakeholders to create online/hybrid learning offerings
  • experience in project management such as time management, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, and meeting milestones and deliverables
  • experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written forms
  • demonstrated ability to adapt to ambiguity, pivot priorities, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • evidence of thorough and precise attention to detail in adhering to guidelines, structure, and established policies
  • demonstrated experience designing or configuring AI agents or automated workflows to support instructional design, quality assurance, or curriculum development

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with team members and faculty to design and develop scalable, engaging, interactive, and pedagogically sound learning experiences that support student success across the lifespan
  • recommend innovative applications of pedagogy and digital tools to enhance scalable, online teaching and learning
  • create compelling and engaging instructional resources that transform the digital student learning experience
  • leverage content authoring tools, multimedia applications, and presentation platforms to support the development of custom online learning solutions that address specific pedagogical challenges
  • advocate for pedagogically sound educational technology integration by keeping team members and faculty informed about cutting-edge instructional technology developments
  • evaluate and recommend effective and creative uses of emerging technologies that have potential value for online teaching and learning
  • develop training materials, including job aids, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials to assist faculty with instructional design principles and the use of online teaching and learning tools
  • leverage AI tools to enhance instructional design workflows, improve efficiency and consistency, and support scalable course and program development across colleges
  • coordinate or assume other duties or projects as assigned or directed
