The Field Service Technician Product Inspection position based in Bakersfield, California, or Utah, focuses on delivering world-class support for Mettler-Toledo’s product inspection equipment. This role involves handling start-ups, audits, maintenance, repairs, and training related to Safeline X-Ray, Safeline Metal Detectors, Hi-Speed Checkweighers, and CI Vision machines. As a Product Inspection Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of field service support, including establishing and maintaining effective communications with customers and internal service teams, scheduling service visits efficiently, preparing detailed written reports and documentation, and adhering strictly to Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection procedures and best practices.
This role demands a high level of technical expertise and customer service skills. The technician will work to satisfy all safety requirements, participate in service calls led by regional management, effectively execute scheduled service assignments while balancing cost, time, and customer expectations, and develop trusted relationships with customers to become their valued advisor. Root cause analysis and first-time fix resolutions are critical components of this position, requiring the ability to accurately diagnose and resolve service issues.
In addition to technical skills, the Field Service Technician will maintain company-supplied equipment, tools, and inventory, complete all service reports, timesheets, and expense documentation promptly, and keep up with ongoing technical training. The position may also require occasional weekend or after-hours work based on workload and rotation. Adherence to the company’s Code of Conduct and core values is mandatory. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in field service or technical roles
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to perform physical tasks and work on site at customer locations
- Willingness to work weekend and afterhours shifts as needed
- Ability to use company-provided tools and equipment
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to travel within assigned regions
- Commitment to company policies and procedures
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience in field service or technical support
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Technical knowledge of X-Ray, metal detection, checkweighing, or vision inspection equipment preferred
- Ability to follow procedures and best practices accurately
- Commitment to safety and compliance
- Experience in completing detailed technical reports
Job Duties
- Satisfy all safety requirements for both MT-PI and customer sites
- Attend tier calls led by a regional service manager
- Efficiently execute scheduled service calls as directed from dispatch or management while taking into account cost, time, and customer needs/expectations
- Develop and maintain good customer relationships
- Become the customer’s trusted advisor
- Identify root cause of service issues (first time fix)
- Accurately complete and submit all service reports and documentation per service activity, timesheets, and expense reports in a timely manner
- Keep up with ongoing technical training
- Perform weekend/afterhours work as required based on workload and rotation
- Maintain company supplied equipment, tools, and inventory
- Follow the code of conduct
- Other duties and tasks as assigned
