Job Description
Butterball is a nationally recognized leader in the turkey industry with more than 60 years of experience in providing high-quality, great-tasting turkey products that are a staple in many households and celebrations. Known for its commitment to excellence and a rich heritage rooted in family traditions and health-conscious food production, Butterball offers a work environment that fosters personal and professional growth for all team members. Employing a diverse workforce across its five manufacturing facilities located in North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, as well as farms in Arkansas, North Carolina, and Kansas, and corporate offices in North Carolina and Illinois, Butterball prides itself on creating opportunities for success in various career paths and locations. The company places a strong emphasis on team support, personal growth, and making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of its consumers through safe, reliable food production processes.
The Mechanical Support Specialist role at Butterball is an essential multi-craft position designed to ensure the ongoing optimal operation of the company's equipment and production lines. This role requires a skilled individual capable of addressing mechanical issues including malfunctions, breakdowns, and other operational changes through maintenance, repair, relocation, and replacement tasks. The specialist will be engaged in complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems work, along with welding and fabrication duties to support the manufacturing process. This position demands technical initiative and the ability to learn and adapt continually to the evolving needs of Butterball’s equipment and plant infrastructure.
Key responsibilities for the Mechanical Support Specialist include troubleshooting and repairing equipment using diagnostic tools like ladder logic and volt meters, performing routine preventive maintenance such as lubricating parts and blade changes, tearing down and reassembling machinery to uphold stringent food safety standards, and supporting training efforts for maintenance teams and production personnel. The specialist will analyze and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to guide repair and maintenance efforts while suggesting process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and uptime. The role requires a dedicated professional who adheres to the company’s core values, safety standards, and food safety regulations, demonstrating both teamwork and independent working skills. Additional responsibilities include time management for work assignments, accurate parts accounting, and occasional operation of production machinery as needed.
Butterball offers a work environment that includes varied temperature conditions between -20 degrees Fahrenheit to over 90 degrees, work in both refrigerated and non-refrigerated areas, exposure to high noise levels requiring personal protective equipment (PPE), and occasional interaction with raw and cooked meat products. This dynamic and physically demanding role is critical to maintaining continuous production and ensuring food safety compliance. The Mechanical Support Specialist position fosters an inclusive workplace culture where equal opportunity is paramount, and all employees are respected regardless of their background. Candidates who thrive in challenging, fast-paced environments and who are motivated by hands-on mechanical work and continuous improvement will find a rewarding career at Butterball in this safety-sensitive role.
