Busch Vacuum Solutions is a globally recognized leader in manufacturing vacuum pumps, compressors, and blowers that serve diverse industrial markets including semiconductor manufacturing, food processing, metallurgy, biomedical applications, and material handling. This facility plays a critical role in the company’s supply chain and operational excellence, supporting seamless logistics and inventory management to meet demanding market needs.

As an Industrial Engineer at Busch Vacuum Solutions in Chesapeake, VA, you will join a dynamic RDC team focused on optimizing operational processes and driving continuous improvements. This full-time, onsite role operates during regular business hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Eastern Time, with some flexibility based on business priorities. The compensation for this position ranges between $92,000 and $114,000 annually, dependent on your skills, experience, and qualifications.

You will be instrumental in enhancing productivity by applying engineering principles, statistical data analysis, and lean methodologies to improve facility layout, capacity planning, and workflow efficiency. By collaborating closely with teams in operations, supply chain, and warehousing, you will contribute to reducing costs while ensuring the smooth flow of materials throughout the distribution center.

Your expertise will be applied to gathering and analyzing data using tools such as Excel, Python, R Programming, Tableau, Power BI, and ERP systems to identify trends and critical areas for operational enhancements. The role involves conducting time studies, value stream mapping, and statistical process control to pinpoint opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction. You will lead efforts to develop and implement effective workflows based on Lean principles, including Kanban, Kaizen, and 5S, to ensure optimal resource utilization and minimal bottlenecks.

In addition, you will be responsible for designing quality control procedures using Six Sigma, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies to maintain compliance with industry standards. Your work will also encompass capacity modeling, using product, process, equipment, and labor data to enhance capacity planning accuracy. You will use discrete event simulation software to analyze complex systems, identify bottlenecks, and optimize throughput for warehouse operations.

The Industrial Engineer will evaluate financial impacts of process improvements through detailed cost analysis and ROI calculations, preparing comprehensive reports and recommendations for management. You will manage projects using software like Microsoft Project and JIRA, ensuring timely delivery of objectives while fostering a culture of lean and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Four or more years of manufacturing production control experience required
  • Ability and willingness to pass a 10-panel drug screen and 7-year criminal history check
  • Must be willing and able to utilize all required PPE
  • Valid driver's license and must meet Busch insurance requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10 percent including occasional domestic and international travel
  • Current work authorization in the United States required
  • Visa sponsorship not available
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs
  • Occasional climbing, squatting, kneeling, reaching overhead, and lifting up to 50 lbs

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, or related field
  • Four or more years of experience in manufacturing production control utilizing a modern ERP system
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control and statistical analysis software like Minitab preferred
  • Familiarity with SAP or INFOR ERP systems preferred
  • Experience with Value Stream Mapping, facility layout planning, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, R Programming, Python, Power BI, Tableau preferred
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project or JIRA preferred
  • Knowledge of capacity analysis and discrete event simulation software such as Simul8, Arena, Matlab, or Python SimPy preferred
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software preferred

Job Duties

  • Conduct statistical data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement
  • Employ tools such as time studies, value stream mapping, and statistical process control to analyze manufacturing processes
  • Develop and implement efficient workflows and layout configurations using Kanban, Kaizen, and 5S principles
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures incorporating Six Sigma, FMEA, and RCA methodologies
  • Optimize warehouse operations by collaborating with supply chain partners including inventory management and order fulfillment
  • Construct and update capacity models and perform capacity planning
  • Utilize discrete event simulation techniques to model and analyze systems
  • Conduct cost analysis including ROI calculations and prepare comprehensive reports
  • Manage projects using project management software ensuring timely completion
  • Lead lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements
