Through various programs and services, Arkansas State Parks emphasizes the importance of outdoor education, natural resource conservation, and community engagement, making it a leader in state-level park management.
This internship opportunity at Arkansas State Parks located in Paragould, AR, offers college students and recent graduates an immersive experience within the hospitality and recreation industry, particularly in the governance of state park hospitality operations. This program is specially designed to encompass all facets of hospitality employed in a dynamic natural setting, with a hands-on approach that allows the intern to engage in visitor services, lodging maintenance, housekeeping, and interpretive programming. Scheduled from June 1, 2026, through August 14, 2026, and requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, the internship provides a living allowance of $500 per week and a commuting allowance of $50 per week, all subject to respective taxes.
The role focuses on equipping interns with practical skills related to customer service, hospitality logistics, and outdoor recreational programming. Interns will assist visitors by offering essential information, planning assistance, reservation handling, and safety briefings, thus enhancing the overall guest experience in the state park setting. Additionally, interns will actively participate in facility maintenance, including cleaning duties, preventive maintenance tasks, and managing inventory of lodging amenities to maintain operational standards. The position also involves facilitating guest experiences, supporting guided outdoor activities such as hikes and kayak tours, and undertaking a special project that encourages innovation by researching and proposing enhancements to guest services.
Beyond direct hospitality roles, interns will gain valuable exposure to other key areas by visiting various administrative departments such as the Office of Outdoor Recreation, Marketing & Revenue, and Communications. This broad exposure is intended to provide a comprehensive view of the operational and strategic frameworks that sustain Arkansas State Parks. The internship is tailor-made for students who are passionate about hospitality, natural resource management, and outdoor recreation and who are seeking to combine academic learning with real-world application in a highly stimulating environment. While no living accommodations are provided, the position encourages the use of personal transportation and promotes professional development through skill-building opportunities, particularly in interpretive skills relevant to parks and recreation management.
