Job Description

EY (Ernst & Young) is a global leader in professional services, dedicated to building a better working world through exceptional delivery and growth. With a presence in over 150 countries, EY provides audit, consulting, tax, strategy, and transaction services that help businesses and individuals navigate complex markets and regulatory environments. EY's culture is diverse and inclusive, fostering innovation and collaboration across its globally connected teams. The firm emphasizes high ethical standards, integrity, and the empowerment of its people to develop future-focused skills and experiences.

This exciting opportunity is for a Tax-Indirect-Excise Tax Manager within EY's EDGE practice, a specialized team that delivers technical tax services to U.S. and global clients. EDGE, which stands for Exceptional Delivery and Growth Engine, operates in a niche technical environment with deep process and service delivery expertise that sets EY apart. As an Excise Tax Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting excise tax compliance and advisory projects, working with clients across diverse industries including Oil & Gas, Transportation, Manufacturing, and Retail.

Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of excise tax-related activities such as preparing and reviewing U.S. Federal and State excise tax filings, including fuel tax obligations. This role extends beyond compliance, offering advisory support through due diligence reviews, structuring assistance, licensing research, controversy support, and legislative interpretation. You will lead complex research efforts, review and coach junior staff work, and contribute to developing quality tax planning and implementation plans. With a focus on client service excellence, you will engage directly with clients and internal teams to analyze tax issues, provide innovative solutions, and ensure compliance with evolving tax laws.

EY offers a competitive base salary ranging from $91,700 to $168,100 across U.S. locations, with higher salary scales for metropolitan areas such as New York City, Washington State, and California. The total rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, flexible vacation policies, paid holidays, and other leave options. EY's flexible hybrid work model expects client-facing professionals to collaborate in person about 60% of the time, balancing flexibility with team connectivity.

Joining EY means working in a fast-paced professional services environment that challenges you to grow your expertise, manage client relationships, and lead engagement teams managing the financial and economic aspects of projects. EY nurtures leadership and technical skills, making this role ideal for tax professionals who aspire to contribute to significant client outcomes while advancing their careers. EY values candidates who demonstrate strong organizational skills, excellent communication, analytical problem-solving capabilities, and a commitment to ethical professional conduct. This role also offers the chance to obtain designations such as CPA, EA, or JD/LLM, further enhancing professional credentials and career trajectory.
