The role available is for a skilled cook responsible for preparing food and maintaining the kitchen's cleanliness and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid grasp of cooking fundamentals and sanitation standards, operating kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, broilers, steamers, and kettles effectively. This position entails preparing various food items including soups, sauces, salads, vegetables, and breakfast meals, ensuring proper storage and handling to prevent spoilage and waste. The cook will supply their assigned workstation with necessary products and culinary tools, maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the cooking process. Additionally, the candidate will perform routine cleaning tasks and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment by keeping floors dry and addressing spills promptly.
The cook must be adept at reading and writing English to interpret recipes accurately and communicate effectively with team members. Physical demands of the job include lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting of objects up to 25 pounds, and standing or walking for extended periods, often in confined spaces and varying temperature conditions. Job Requirements
- Must have basic knowledge of the fundamentals of cooking
- Must have basic knowledge of accepted standards of sanitation
- Must have knowledge of operating all kitchen equipment, i.e., stoves, ovens, broilers, steamers, kettles, etc
- Basic mathematical skills necessary to understand recipes, measurements, and portion sizes
- Ability to read and write English language to read recipes and communicate with other team members
- Sufficient manual dexterity of hand to use all kitchen equipment, i.e., knives, spoons, spatulas, tongs, slices, etc
- Ability to perform duties in confined spaces
- Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges
Job Qualifications
- Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- High school diploma required
- Culinary or apprenticeship program preferred
- Minimum two to three years cooking experience in a hotel or restaurant environment required
Job Duties
- Supplying assigned workstation with all needed products and culinary equipment for prompt production
- Preparing all the prep work for soups, sauces, salads, vegetables, and breakfast
- Storing all food in refrigerated boxes including covers, labels and dates, using the proper containers to protect against waste and spoilage
- Maintaining area in a clean condition at all times
- Performing general routine cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards
- Keeping floors dry and clean to avoid slip fall accidents
- Performing other duties as requested, such as moving supplies and equipment, cleaning up slips, etc., to ensure safe working environment
