Job Description
Providence St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica is a leading community hospital dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare and advancing medical excellence. Established as a 266-bed state-of-the-art facility, Providence St. John's is renowned for its comprehensive stroke center designation and recognition as a STEMI receiving center. The hospital is equipped with a full range of cardiovascular services and houses the esteemed John Wayne Cancer Institute. We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment that integrates various specialty groups, including cardiothoracic surgery and neuroscience, to stay at the forefront of patient care. Our mission is to bring “better” healthcare — better teamwork and a profound, lasting impact on the community we serve with compassion and respect.
Joining Providence St. John's Health Center as the Critical Care Program Medical Director presents an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated intensivist to lead a dynamic and cohesive unit. The role focuses on overseeing a 23-bed closed ICU that caters to a wide variety of critically ill patients, including medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiovascular cases. The ICU operates with high acuity and complexity, supported by advanced technologies such as VA/VV ECMO and Impella 5.5 for circulatory support, demonstrating the hospital's commitment to advanced critical care interventions. Intensivists can expect a manageable patient load, averaging between 4 to 10 patients per physician per day, allowing focused, high-quality patient care.
The position entails leadership responsibilities that combine clinical expertise with administrative oversight, including managing a skilled team of intensivists and collaborating closely with surgical oncology fellows and UCLA UCR critical care fellows who rotate through the ICU. The hospital utilizes the EPIC electronic medical records system, facilitating streamlined and efficient clinical workflows. This role is perfect for practitioners seeking an environment where they can care for the full spectrum of critical care patients while actively contributing to the development and enhancement of ICU services. The schedule is thoughtfully balanced to support work-life harmony, encompassing 12 clinical shifts and 2 to 3 administrative days each month.
Santa Monica, California, enhances this opportunity with its vibrant coastal living, offering more than 300 days of sunshine annually and a variety of recreational, cultural, and dining options. Known for its excellent public and private schools as well as its environmentally proactive community initiatives, Santa Monica is ideal for individuals and families seeking a high quality of life alongside a rewarding professional career. Compensation includes a competitive hourly rate of $215 plus a $70,000 leadership stipend, reflecting the hospital’s dedication to attracting and retaining highly skilled medical professionals. This opportunity is a compelling choice for those who are committed to excellence, collaboration, and making a positive impact in a uniquely supportive and progressive healthcare environment.
