The Hyperbaric Technician role at Houston Methodist is a critical position within the Wound Care Program, responsible for administering hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy to patients. Working under the supervision of a hyperbaric physician and a qualified Registered Nurse with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy certification, the technician performs a range of tasks that support high-quality, patient and family-centered care. This includes recording policy and procedure-established data, reporting patient observations, and any complications to the nursing staff. The position demands a highly competent knowledge base to effectively communicate and execute delegated patient care tasks, providing reliable support to the interprofessional care team. The Hyperbaric Technician also handles non-nursing duties essential to delivering cost-effective care, aligning with Houston Methodist's ICARE values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Key responsibilities include performing diagnostic testing such as transcutaneous oxygen monitoring and non-invasive measurements of skin perfusion pressure and pulse volume recording. The role requires collaboration, strong communication skills, and effective time and workflow management. Additionally, the technician plays an active role in quality and safety measures by monitoring patients during treatments, reporting adverse events promptly, and supporting patient satisfaction initiatives.
