Job Description
Waterous Company is a renowned manufacturer specializing in the production of highly innovative pumps, hydrants, and valves. Founded in 1886, this privately owned South St. Paul company has a longstanding reputation for manufacturing reliable products that are crucial for saving lives and protecting citizens. Serving both national and international markets, Waterous has built a legacy of trust and dependability with firefighters and emergency responders worldwide. With approximately 260 employees and a workforce that boasts tenures as long as 45 years, Waterous fosters a work environment that values safety, longevity, and employee satisfaction.
The role being offered at Waterous is a hands-on assembly and operational position that centers on the creation and maintenance of essential firefighting products. This position involves assembling fire hydrants, underground valves, and related safety-critical products that require high precision and attention to detail. Specialists in this role assist in electrostatic painting processes which involve applying electrically charged paints in accordance with strict specifications to ensure durability and performance. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in using both manual and automated painting equipment safely.
Moreover, this role demands operational skills to safely operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment for the efficient movement of heavy materials and finished products across the shop floor and yards. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workplace is also part of the daily responsibilities through janitorial tasks and adherence to established safety protocols.
The position is shift-based, primarily covering 2nd and 3rd shifts but requires the flexibility to work across any shift and overtime, including Saturdays, as scheduled. Successful candidates will undergo a probation period, after which they will receive attractive compensation starting at $33.79 per hour plus a shift differential of $1.25 per hour. During probation, the hourly rate is $28.72, plus the shift differential. Joining the union after 30 days is an integral part of this position, reflecting Waterous’ commitment to mutual support and strong workforce representation.
This opportunity offers an excellent chance for workers with mechanical aptitude and assembly experience to contribute to a historic company that values innovation, safety, and employee welfare. The role suits individuals comfortable with physically demanding activities like lifting, twisting, standing for long periods, and handling weights between 50 and 80 pounds regularly. Waterous also values candidates who are team players, committed to workplace safety, and capable of passing various assessments, including the Manufacturing Applicant Profile System (MAPS) tests, background checks, and a physical capabilities examination.
Waterous Company provides an extensive benefits package designed to ensure employee wellness and productivity. After only 30 days, employees become eligible for affordable health insurance and vision plans, employer-paid dental insurance if enrolled in health plans, and company contributions to health savings accounts for those on high deductible plans. Beyond health benefits, the package includes a 401K plan with company matching and additional contributions, employer-paid life and disability insurance, voluntary insurance options, and flexible spending accounts. Paid time off includes 10 holidays, two personal floating days after the probation period, and vacation time aligned with union agreements. Employees also accumulate sick and safe time immediately upon employment.
Additional perks at Waterous include participation in a generous quarterly incentive bonus plan, an on-site fitness center, numerous employee recognition programs, access to apprenticeship opportunities, an employee assistance program, and a $160 annual allowance for safety footwear. This combination of stable employment, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits within a historic, employee-centered company makes this position appealing to skilled assembly and manufacturing workers seeking a rewarding and secure career path.
