The position of Hy-Chi Department Clerk is a vital role within the Hy-Vee team, specifically focused on supporting the Hy-Chi department. This department typically includes bakery, deli, or prepared food sections where freshness, quality, and customer service are paramount. As a Hy-Chi Department Clerk, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks geared towards fulfilling customer orders accurately and efficiently while maintaining food safety standards. Your role will include handling food products properly, ordering and receiving inventory, ensuring that all products are dated correctly and stored appropriately, and preparing orders to meet the quality expectations of Hy-Vee customers. This non-exempt, hourly position plays a critical part in maintaining the smooth operation of the department. Your duties extend beyond order fulfillment to include maintaining sanitation and cleanliness of the work area to comply with health and safety guidelines. The Hy-Chi Department Clerk is someone who thrives in a fast-paced, sometimes physically demanding environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • six months or less of related experience
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive motions
  • ability to maintain personal hygiene and adhere to dress code
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment with pressure
  • availability to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service
  • smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner
  • makes an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name
  • assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products, loading/unloading, passing along suggestions
  • answers the telephone promptly and takes customer orders
  • takes customer orders at the Hy-Chi Department counter
  • works with co-workers as a team
  • reviews orders for the day
  • practices proper sanitation procedures and keeps the work area clean
  • reviews food for freshness
  • ensures an adequate food supply and develops or follows a production list
  • anticipates daily product needs
  • prepares, finishes, and replenishes product
  • pulls product from cooler/freezer
  • checks in product and reviews invoices
  • runs the department register and handles payments where applicable
  • removes trash promptly
  • maintains personal hygiene and dress standards
  • adheres to company policies and reports to work on time
