Job Description

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) is a vital not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and reliable blood supply to hospitals across the region. Known for its deep community connections and commitment to saving lives, CBCO operates several centers that rely heavily on community volunteers and dedicated employees. The organization is dedicated not only to collecting and distributing blood but also to fostering a supportive and engaged workforce and volunteer base that reflects the core values of service, respect, and safety. As a respected leader in healthcare services, CBCO offers a collaborative and fulfilling work environment where employees and volunteers alike contribute to meaningful outcomes that impact the health and wellness of countless individuals.

The Human Resources Generalist role at CBCO is pivotal in managing both the volunteer program and various human resource functions across the organization. This full-time position involves overseeing volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention, ensuring that volunteer activities align with the organization’s goals and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the incumbent plays a key role in employee retention initiatives, including engagement surveys, service recognition, and special events. This position requires managing compliance programs such as Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) tracking, COBRA notifications, and workers’ compensation reporting. The Human Resources Generalist will also assist with recruitment and onboarding of entry-level staff and support safety and compliance in collaboration with other HR personnel. The role demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and professionalism when interacting with staff, volunteers, and the community. A commitment to maintaining a drug-free workplace and equal opportunity employment is essential to CBCO’s values. This position offers the chance to make a profound impact by supporting both the internal workforce and the broader community volunteer efforts that sustain the organization’s life-saving mission.

In this capacity, the Human Resources Generalist will conduct volunteer recruitment targeting traditionally ineligible but qualified individuals, coordinate internship programs to expand awareness of CBCO’s work, and maintain comprehensive volunteer records. The role includes planning and executing training sessions and community outreach to grow a diverse and capable volunteer team. On the employee front, the generalist supports retention through engagement surveys, employee recognition events such as the annual Service Awards banquet, and coordination of retirement and appreciation activities. Compliance responsibilities are broader, involving maintaining updated and accurate FMLA and COBRA records and assisting with OSHA-related reporting and workers’ compensation claims. This multifaceted position requires the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and to foster positive relationships at all levels within the organization. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and adaptable HR professional, proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and willing to obtain HR certifications to meet performance expectations. A clean driving record and flexibility for travel within CBCO’s service areas are also required. Overall, this opportunity combines human resource expertise with community engagement to uphold and enhance CBCO’s mission of saving lives through blood donation and volunteerism.
