Job Description
The Salvation Army is a globally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to providing social services, humanitarian aid, and support to individuals and communities in need. With a rich history of compassion and community involvement, The Salvation Army operates shelters, food programs, rehabilitation services, and emergency assistance initiatives to uplift vulnerable populations. The organization is committed to maintaining a respectful and safe environment for all individuals who seek their services or visit their facilities.
This opportunity is for a Shelter Receptionist and Security Monitor position, which plays a vital role in managing the day-to-day operations within a shelter environment. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and delivery personnel, and will be responsible for courteous telephone communication, accurate message taking, and directing calls appropriately. This role includes receiving and processing deliveries and donations, greeting visitors, and providing general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services.
In addition to administrative responsibilities such as typing, filing, and data entry, the Shelter Receptionist and Security Monitor ensures that shelter residents are checked in properly with the preparation of intake cards and maintaining accurate records of resident property. They monitor resident activity to ensure safety, security, and adherence to house rules by conducting security checks of doors, windows, and surveillance cameras, and by making rounds within the facility. The role demands vigilance in keeping the shelter environment neat, orderly, and secure at all times.
The Shelter Receptionist and Security Monitor completes detailed paperwork for client intake, manages financial transactions including tallying and balancing monies, and is responsible for handling receipts and securing funds safely. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, manage client behaviors to maintain order, and meet attendance standards consistently.
Candidates for this role should possess a high school diploma or GED, with at least one year of experience in security or social service environments, and experience handling telephone switchboard duties. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position will also be considered.
The Salvation Army offers an inclusive and supportive working environment with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, dental and vision coverage through Aflac policies, paid time off, holiday pay, and retirement plans. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about social service, security, and community support to contribute meaningfully while gaining valuable experience in a nonprofit setting. The application period is from May 6 to May 15, 2026, reaffirming The Salvation Army's commitment to equal opportunity employment, particularly encouraging veterans and disabled individuals to apply.
