The organization prides itself on creating a culture of respect, teamwork, and continuous improvement, making it a highly respected employer in the healthcare industry.

This role is for a Houseworker position within the UMass Memorial Health system, specifically supporting the 5300 Housekeeping department. The Houseworker plays an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment throughout all hospital and building areas. This is a non-exempt position with a competitive hourly wage range of $15.00 to $22.29, with the final offer based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Scheduled shifts are mixed, working primarily from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, seven days a week, often involving a signing bonus upon eligibility confirmation during the interview process.

The Houseworker is responsible for performing standard cleaning procedures throughout the hospital, including patient rooms, operating rooms, nurseries, nursing stations, lounges, and other auxiliary areas. Duties include dusting, washing walls and windows, disinfecting surfaces, mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, and cleaning metal and porcelain fixtures. Additional responsibilities include burnishing and polishing floors with specialized machines and conducting thorough "check out" cleanings of discharge and transfer units, including making beds. Trash management, from collection to transport to compactor areas, forms part of the daily tasks.

Working in this role requires individuals to be detail-oriented, physically capable of performing manual cleaning tasks, and committed to upholding the hospital's high standards of cleanliness and patient safety. The work environment is varied and dynamic, requiring adaptability to different cleaning challenges and cooperation with a multidisciplinary team. This position also highlights UMass Memorial Health’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by encouraging applications from individuals regardless of their background. The organization fosters a respectful workplace with its Standards of Respect: Acknowledge, Listen, Communicate, Be Responsive, Be a Team Player, and Be Kind.

UMass Memorial Health offers its employees a supportive environment where respect and teamwork are integral to daily operations. The Houseworker role is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy meaningful work contributing to a critical aspect of patient care by ensuring cleanliness and safety throughout the hospital facilities. This position suits motivated individuals seeking to develop their career within a leading healthcare system that values every employee's role in its mission of healing and compassion.
