Job Description
UMass Memorial Health is the premier health system of Central Massachusetts, known for its exceptional patient care, academic excellence, and cutting-edge research. It employs a workforce of more than 20,000 dedicated individuals who collaborate as one unified system with an unwavering commitment to healing patients, serving the community, and supporting each other. As a leader in healthcare, UMass Memorial Health provides a work environment where every employee, regardless of their title or responsibilities, is recognized as a caregiver contributing meaningfully every day. The organization values diversity and inclusion, striving to apply its six Standards of Respect—Acknowledge, Listen, Communicate, Be Responsive, Be a Team Player, and Be Kind—in every interaction.
This specific role is a Housekeeper within the 5300 Housekeeping cost center, classified as non-exempt under the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) union. The position offers a competitive salary range between $19.00 and $30.34 per hour, with the final offer being dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Scheduled hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM on a day shift basis, totaling 40 hours per week, with every other weekend and holiday work expectations. Additionally, a signing bonus may be available subject to eligibility confirmed during the interview.
The Housekeeper plays a crucial role in maintaining a hygienic, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors across all hospital areas, including patient rooms, operation theaters, units, nurseries, nursing stations, and auxiliary spaces. Responsibilities include performing routine cleaning procedures such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces, as well as handling waste removal. Moreover, the role may require setting up meeting rooms and moving furniture to support various hospital needs. The position also involves specialized cleaning tasks like burnishing floors using machinery and meticulous cleaning during patient discharges and transfers including bed making.
Working at UMass Memorial Health means joining a health system that not only emphasizes quality care but also fosters a culture of respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Housekeeper is empowered to contribute directly to patient care by ensuring environments comply with the highest standards of cleanliness, which is critical to infection control and overall patient safety. This role is ideal for individuals who are conscientious, reliable, able to follow instructions, and are comfortable working autonomously or as part of a broader team. Candidates should be at least 18 years old and able to read and follow simple English instructions. Prior housekeeping experience, while preferred, is not mandatory as equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. UMass Memorial Health offers a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where employees are respected for their vital role within the organization and encouraged to build meaningful healthcare careers.
