This particular opportunity is for the role of a Houseworker within the UMass Memorial Health system. The position is classified as non-exempt with a competitive hourly wage ranging from $19.00 to $30.34, reflecting the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, with possible adjustments for internal equity. The shift for this position is a full 40-hour week, specifically from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, covering holidays every other time and weekends every other weekend. This role is part of the UFCW union and aligns with the cost center of Housekeeping services, which is instrumental in maintaining cleanliness and a healthy environment throughout UMass Memorial Health facilities.
As a Houseworker, the individual will be responsible for performing standard and specialized cleaning procedures in various hospital areas such as patient rooms, surgical units, nurseries, nursing stations, auxiliary areas, lounges, and more. The duties extend to high dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting surfaces, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal, ensuring that every area complies with the organization's high standards for hygiene and safety. This role requires attention to detail when sanitizing areas that are critical to patient care and infection control.
Additional responsibilities include using burnishers and automatic floor machines for floor care and performing checkout cleaning tasks, such as preparing rooms after patient discharge or transfer, including making beds. The Houseworker may also assist in moving furniture and setting up meeting rooms as needed, enhancing the functionality and readiness of various hospital spaces. This role is vital for supporting the healthcare teams and patients, contributing to a clean and safe environment conducive to healing and well-being.

Job Requirements
- Ability to read, write and follow simple English instruction
- Employees must be at least 18 years of age
- 3-6 months experience as a houseworker preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements

Job Duties
- Performs standard cleaning procedures in all areas of the hospital and buildings including patient rooms, surgery areas, and nursing stations
- Performs high dusting, spot cleaning of walls, windows, and doors
- Disinfects horizontal surfaces, mops floors, vacuums carpets, empties trash and polishes fixtures
- Burnishes floors with burnishers and cleans floors with automatic floor machines
- Performs checkout cleaning of discharges and transfer units including making beds
- Picks up and transports trash from collection points to compactor
- Moves furniture and sets up meeting rooms as necessary
