Job Description
Courtyard by Marriott DeLand Historic Downtown is a prominent hotel that operates under MCR, the third-largest hotel owner-operator in the United States. MCR, established in 2006, manages an extensive portfolio valued at 5.0 billion dollars, encompassing 148 premium-branded hotels spread across 37 states and 106 cities. With headquarters located in New York City, Dallas, Chicago, and Richmond, Virginia, MCR employs more than 7,000 team members nationwide and operates hotels under nine Marriott brands, eight Hilton brands, along with various independent hotels. Recognized for innovation and excellence, MCR has earned several prestigious awards including Fast Company's 10 Most Innovative Travel Companies of 2020, the Marriott Partnership Circle Award, and the Hilton Legacy Award for Top Performer. Their commitment to quality is also evident in properties such as the award-winning TWA Hotel at New York's JFK Airport.
The Houseperson role at Courtyard by Marriott DeLand Historic Downtown is a vital position dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, guest service, and teamwork that define the MCR brand. This role is centered around providing an exceptional guest experience through meticulous upkeep of the hotel’s public and service areas, handling luggage and packages professionally, and ensuring that the hotel environment is safe, clean, and welcoming. Housepersons will be expected to engage with guests warmly, demonstrating friendly and professional communication skills, contributing to guest satisfaction, and supporting various hotel groups and events. The role requires an understanding of hotel technology relevant to the position and exemplifying excellent phone etiquette. All team members must exhibit a flawless, professional appearance in approved uniforms, with smiles and nametags worn at all times.
Housepersons take responsibility for cleaning public hallways, stairwells, service areas, and ice rooms, as well as managing trash collection from various locations including parking lots and recreational areas. They must maintain the organization and cleanliness of both front and back-of-house spaces, replenish guest floor linen closets, guest amenities, and housekeeping carts, as well as monitor the condition and placement of public furniture, reporting issues promptly. Flexibility and a sense of urgency in handling challenging situations are critical in ensuring that the hotel environment aligns with MCR's standards of excellence. This position supports daily operational efficiency by completing all checklists accurately and on schedule and contributing to effective communication through shift handover reports.
In addition to physical tasks such as stooping, climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting, and walking for extended periods, the Houseperson role demands a resilient, can-do attitude and the ability to work well under pressure. Teamwork is paramount; clear, honest, and professional communication and collaboration with other team members create a positive workplace culture. The hotel offers a variety of benefits including weekly pay, hotel discounts, paid time off, health insurance options, retirement plans, referral bonuses, and opportunities for career advancement. Candidates must be 18 years or older, willing to work varied schedules including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as necessitated by the hotel's demands.
