The Houseperson position at Derby City Gaming & Hotel plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization throughout the property, which directly contributes to an exceptional guest experience. This role involves servicing public and guest room areas to ensure they meet the high standards set by the hotel and casino. The Houseperson is responsible for keeping service landing closets fully stocked with linens and supplies, assisting Guest Room Attendants with various tasks such as stripping guest rooms, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of corridors, stairwells, and guest room doors to keep them free of scuff marks. Daily duties include dusting baseboards, pictures in corridors, emptying linens and garbage from attendants on an hourly basis, and ensuring that all service areas like ice machine rooms remain clean and organized.

This position requires an individual who pays close attention to detail and can manage physical demands such as standing or walking for extended periods, bending, reaching overhead, and lifting or moving objects up to specified weights. The Houseperson also plays an important customer service role by responding to guest requests and contributing to a safe and secure environment for both guests and staff. Good communication, time management, and follow-through skills are essential for success in this role. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, is necessary to meet the operational needs of the hotel and gaming facility.

Job Requirements

  • Previous cleaning experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail is required
  • Must be able to stand or walk for an extended period or for an entire work shift
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching overhead and squatting
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and place objects weighing up to 30 lbs without assistance and a minimum of 100 lbs with assistance
  • Must be able to push/pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs without assistance
  • Good communication, time management, follow-through, and customer services skills are required
  • Must be able to work around a variety of chemicals and be able to respond to hazardous situations
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Ensures that assigned service landing closets are stocked at proper linen and supply par levels
  • Empties Guest Room Attendants' linens on an hourly basis or as needed
  • Empties Guest Room Attendants' garbage on an hourly basis or as needed
  • Communicate with Guest Room Attendants and assist them with stripping guest rooms
  • Keeps the service landings and ice machine room clean and organized
  • Keeps corridors on guest room floors clean
  • Maintains cleanliness of stairwells
  • Dusts baseboards and pictures in guest corridors on a daily basis
  • Ensures all guest room doors remain free of scuff marks
  • Moves furniture upon request
  • Completes guest requests
  • Ensures hotel guests and associates are maintained in a safe and secure environment
