Job Description

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a reputable healthcare facility located in Newark, New Jersey, known for providing comprehensive medical services and patient care. As a part of RWJBarnabas Health, one of the largest health systems in New Jersey, the medical center is committed to delivering high-quality healthcare through advanced medical technologies, compassionate staff, and a commitment to the wellness of the communities it serves. The Environmental Services Department plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors across the facility. This department upholds the hospital's mission by ensuring that all areas are properly sanitized and maintained according to strict health and safety standards, thereby contributing to the overall patient care experience and hospital safety.

The role of a Housekeeping Worker at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a full-time, evening shift position that offers an hourly wage of $19.98. This position is vital to the ongoing cleanliness and operational efficiency of the hospital. The Housekeeping Worker is primarily responsible for cleaning and supplying patient rooms, nursing stations, ancillary areas, and other designated hospital locations. This is done in accordance with the Environmental Services Department’s standard operating procedures and the overarching objectives of the medical center. Individuals in this role will be expected to perform a variety of duties that ensure the hospital environment is hygienic, orderly, and comfortable for patients and staff alike.

Housekeeping Workers must be attentive to detail and capable of adhering to rigorous cleaning protocols including the management of waste, maintenance of equipment, and responding promptly to emergency clean-ups. Duties also include arranging furniture for meetings and community events, shampooing carpets, mopping floors, dusting common areas, and ensuring that patient rooms are fully equipped and 'patient ready' at all times. The role involves working evening shifts from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, including weekends and holidays, requiring reliability and flexibility. This role not only demands physical endurance and the ability to work independently but also the ability to respond to dynamic situations within the hospital environment efficiently.

The Housekeeping Worker must complete a general and department-specific orientation to ensure full compliance with hospital policies and environmental safety standards. While a high school diploma and previous hospital housekeeping experience are preferred, the position is accessible to candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to cleanliness, safety, and teamwork. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center values employees’ contributions to its mission and offers a comprehensive benefits package to support their physical, emotional, and financial well-being, including paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, retirement plans, and wellness programs.

This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to a critical hospital function that directly impacts patient safety and satisfaction. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center encourages applicants who are detail-oriented, dependable, and passionate about maintaining a clean and safe healthcare environment to apply and join a dedicated team focused on excellence in healthcare hospitality and environmental services.
