Housekeepers serve as essential members of the gym staff team, entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that every corner of the gym, from the workout floors to locker rooms and office spaces, meets the high cleanliness and hygiene expectations of both members and staff. Cleanliness is not only a matter of appearance but also an integral part of member experience and health safety, making the role of Housekeeper indispensable.

Housekeepers perform various light cleaning tasks under the guidance of the Gym Operations Manager. This position requires both diligence and attention to detail, as they maintain the upkeep of equipment, floors, bathrooms, glass surfaces, and other facilities. Specific duties include wiping down fitness machines and equipment, sweeping and mopping floors and stairwells, cleaning locker rooms, dusting furniture, emptying trash receptacles daily, and ensuring the management office is tidy and presentable. They also handle the stocking and organization of cleaning supplies and equipment, monitor maintenance needs, and report any issues promptly to maintain operational integrity.

Beyond cleaning, Housekeepers play a critical role in contributing to the gym's overall ambiance and service quality. Their efforts help promote a hygienic and organized environment that enhances satisfaction and safety for members. An ideal candidate will have experience in housekeeping or janitorial services, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and within a team setting. High school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory, with preference given to those who have prior experience in hospitality or health clubs.

Job Requirements

  • At least three months experience in housekeeping or janitorial services
  • three months customer service experience desired
  • high school diploma or general education degree preferred
  • must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • must have excellent organization, interpersonal and time management skills
  • must have proven ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously
  • must be able to collaborate and work as part of a team in a professional manner

Job Duties

  • Cleans outside glass
  • wipes down equipment, doors and floors as necessary
  • empties trash receptacles daily
  • sweeps and mops floors, stairwells, staircases
  • cleans carpets and floors as needed
  • changes light bulbs as necessary
  • cleans all fitness equipment, bathrooms, mirrors and glass
  • dusts furniture and fixtures daily
  • cleans the management office daily
  • mops and sweeps lobby floors
  • cleans the locker room including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, dusting, cleaning out lint, and buffing locker and lobby room floors
  • maintains and organizes mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners and other equipment and supplies in good condition
  • picks up debris on carpet and vacuums carpet
  • replaces or adds required supplies in locker rooms
  • stocks carts with linens and supplies and organizes cart as required
  • cleans vacuum cleaner bags or canisters daily
  • reports maintenance problems in an accurate and timely manner
