The Environmental Service Associate role at HonorHealth is an essential position within the hospital’s patient care units, particularly based at the Deer Valley location in Phoenix, AZ. This night-shift role operates from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM on variable days, focusing on maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and overall patient comfort. The associate ensures that patient care areas are meticulously cleaned and stocked, adhering strictly to established procedures and sanitation protocols to uphold the highest standards of room and common area hygiene.
In this role, the Environmental Service Associate performs a variety of housekeeping duties, including cleaning patient rooms, bathrooms, waiting areas, and common spaces. They are responsible for handling hazardous and infectious waste in compliance with health and safety regulations and responding promptly to patient requests related to housekeeping or hospitality needs. The position requires a compassionate and professional approach, as the associate works closely with patients and healthcare staff, helping to maintain a safe and comfortable environment that promotes patient dignity and satisfaction.
The associate also plays a critical role in patient safety by conducting rounds, monitoring patients for signs of distress, and promptly notifying nursing personnel if intervention is necessary. Technical responsibilities include proper chemical mixing, maintaining cleaning equipment, and ensuring that all tools and carts are well-maintained and functioning optimally. Job Requirements
- other / certificate less than high school required
- 6 months experience preferred
- drivers license for those environmental services tech positions that will be required to drive HonorHealth vehicles, incumbent must have a clean driving record as defined by HonorHealth Network Driver Qualification Policy
- must be at least 21 years of age
- provide a current and valid Arizona driver’s license
- have a motor vehicle report obtained and reviewed by Human Resources
- successfully complete the quarterly HonorHealth Defensive Driving Course and provide a certificate of completion
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- 6 months experience preferred
- drivers license preferred for positions requiring vehicle operation
- ability to follow sanitation protocols and patient care standards
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to work independently and in a team environment
- attention to detail and reliability
Job Duties
- maintains cleanliness of patient care areas following established procedures, sanitation protocols and achieves satisfaction and quality standards for room and common area cleaning
- executes checkout room cleaning per department guidelines
- disposes of hazardous and infectious waste in compliance with protocols
- performs morning and evening patient room rounds, inspects room, removes clutter, empties trash, refreshes bathroom
- responds to patient service requests for housekeeping services and hospitality support
- cleans common area space and waiting areas on the patient care unit
- stocks linen and housekeeping supplies
- cleans and sanitizes equipment as assigned
- stages equipment for pickup
- monitors corridors and keeps free from clutter
- participates in patient safety rounding
- monitors patient for signs of distress
- alerts nursing personnel when intervention or clinical monitoring is required
- mixing of chemicals according to directions, resulting in optimum cleaning
- operates, maintains and repairs cleaning equipment used by the department
- performs other duties as assigned
