Job Description
Good Samaritan Society (GSS) is a well-established not-for-profit organization with a rich history spanning over 100 years. Dedicated to providing compassionate housing and supportive services to seniors, GSS operates within a Christian environment, emphasizing quality care and service tailored to the unique needs of its residents. The facility located at 3901 S Marion Rd, Sioux Falls, SD, is part of this respected network, continuing the organization's mission to enhance the quality of life for older adults through safe, comfortable, and nurturing living spaces.
The role of Environmental Services Technician at GSS in Sioux Falls is an essential position focused on maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, their families, visitors, and staff. This part-time position involves working the day shift, specifically from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with no weekend commitments, offering flexibility and a balanced work-life schedule. The technician is expected to perform light housekeeping duties in resident apartments and common areas while assisting with breakfast and lunch services. The hourly wage ranges from $15.00 to $17.00, reflecting the importance of the role within the facility's operational standards.
Environmental Services Technicians at GSS play a crucial role in infection control, safety protocols, and procedural compliance to ensure a healthy environment in patient and resident areas. Responsibilities include tasks such as emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing floors, and using various cleaning tools and powered machines. These activities are vital for upholding the hygiene and comfort levels expected in a healthcare-oriented residential setting.
The role also demands familiarity with housekeeping processes within healthcare environments and the ability to adapt cleaning methods to meet these specialized needs. Technicians may be assigned to clean areas including patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms. Adherence to safety guidelines includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize risk and safeguard all individuals in the facility.
Physical demands for this position are significant, requiring repetitive use of arms and legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, and squatting. The technician must be capable of lifting or moving weights up to 40-50 pounds and pushing/pulling weights across flat surfaces or ramps. Being on feet for the majority of the shift is expected, as well as tolerance for noise generated by cleaning equipment.
Good Samaritan Society places a strong emphasis on teamwork and utilizing technology effectively, providing Environmental Services Technicians with tools such as pagers and other technological devices as part of their roles. The work schedule may vary based on resident needs, with potential opportunities for additional hours through overtime or backup shifts, although weekend shifts are not a requirement for this particular position.
Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in healthcare facility maintenance and environmental services, particularly those who appreciate working in a faith-based organization dedicated to senior care. The part-time Environmental Services Technician role at Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls is ideal for individuals seeking meaningful work, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits that support their personal and professional well-being.
