Job Description
The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD), is dedicated to providing compassionate and accessible care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The department serves a vital role within the state by supporting residents through comprehensive programs and facilities aimed at promoting long-term wellness, community integration, and improved quality of life. One of the facilities under this department is the Midlands Regional Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) located in Columbia, South Carolina. This center focuses on serving the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing residential care, therapy, and supportive services in a safe and supportive environment.
We are currently seeking a motivated and dedicated Housekeeping professional to join our team at Midlands Regional Center. This full-time position offers an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of the individuals we serve by maintaining health, safety, and cleanliness standards within the facility. The Housekeeping role entails performing a variety of custodial and cleaning tasks essential to the maintenance and upkeep of the center to ensure a hygienic and orderly environment. Working under the direct supervision of the Building/Grounds Supervisor, the successful candidate will carry out housekeeping activities including floor maintenance, cleaning of walls, doors, furniture, restrooms, and showers, as well as managing waste and organizing supplies. This role requires the ability to follow a planned work schedule strategically designed to avoid conflicts with unit programming and to support the smooth running of facility operations.
In addition to traditional cleaning duties, the Housekeeping position also requires attentiveness to detail and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards relevant to the healthcare environment in which the Midlands Regional Center operates. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of proper custodial methods and safety protocols, competency in the use of cleaning tools and equipment, and the ability to keep accurate records. The role also includes responsibilities such as training new employees in correct housekeeping practices and responding promptly to inspection follow-ups. Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of various pre-employment screenings, including medical and drug screening, background checks, fingerprinting, child abuse registry screening, and review of educational credentials.
Working for BHDD-OIDD comes with the benefit of being a part of a dedicated team committed to improving lives and building a healthier, more resilient community for people with intellectual disabilities. The department emphasizes equal employment opportunity and actively supports diversity and inclusion. Employees are provided with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage for themselves and their families, paid vacation and sick leave, holidays, parental leave, deferred compensation programs, and retirement benefits. The Housekeeping position at Midlands Regional Center provides stable employment within a meaningful public service role where contributions directly impact the quality of life for vulnerable populations in South Carolina.
