Job Description

Island Spa & Sauna is a premier Korean spa and wellness facility located in Edison, NJ, dedicated to providing a tranquil and rejuvenating experience for all guests. With a dedicated team of 150 employees, Island Spa & Sauna stands as a sanctuary where relaxation and well-being are paramount. Every aspect of the spa, from serene massages and invigorating sauna rooms to refreshing juices and comfortable relaxation lounges, is meticulously designed to offer a holistic and authentic spa experience. The spa is renowned for its commitment to cleanliness, ambiance, and exceptional service, ensuring guests feel cared for from the moment they step in until their departure. The environment fosters a harmonious workplace where each team member plays a vital role in upholding the high standards that make Island Spa & Sauna a distinguished destination for both locals and visitors seeking a refreshing escape.

The Housekeeping & Laundry Manager at Island Spa & Sauna plays a crucial leadership role, owning the cleanliness and upkeep of the entire facility. This role goes beyond simply managing housekeeping duties in guest treatment areas; it encompasses maintaining every space throughout the property in pristine condition. The manager is responsible for making sure that all visible or accessible areas to guests—such as lobbies, reception areas, locker rooms, showers, saunas, pools and water areas, relaxation lounges, treatment rooms, dining and lounge spaces, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, elevators, and entryways—are spotless, hygienic, and guest-ready at all times. Cleanliness is not maintained on a fixed schedule but is a continuous process, with proactive attention to fingerprints, streaks, spills, clutter, and odors.

This managerial position also oversees a comprehensive laundry operation, ensuring that towels, robes, linens, sheets, slippers, wraps, and cloths are properly collected, laundered, and returned daily without exception. The role requires precise inventory management to keep textiles accounted for, tracking loss and shrinkage, and reordering to maintain adequate supply levels. The manager must adhere stringently to washing protocols by textile type, including temperature controls, use of detergents, sanitizing cycles, and drying methods to meet hygiene standards and prolong fabric life. Proper separation and handling of soiled or potentially contaminated textiles are essential to maintain sanitation and comply with health-code requirements particular to a spa environment.

Housekeeping & Laundry Manager responsibilities also include developing, maintaining, and enforcing cleaning and sanitation standards, creating checklists and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), conducting inspections, and documenting all cleaning activities to ensure accountability. Supervisory duties involve scheduling, assigning zones, coaching, and supporting the housekeeping team to meet quality standards consistently. Furthermore, this role involves managing cleaning supply inventories and costs while ensuring the safe storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals and consumables, following safety protocols with proper PPE use.

Coordination with the Maintenance Department is integral to the position, enabling prompt reporting and resolution of repairs, hazards, or damage discovered during cleaning. This partnership helps sustain a safe and operationally sound facility. Additionally, the manager is responsible for maintaining laundry equipment through routine preventive service, addressing malfunctions promptly, and handling any relationships with external linen or laundry vendors, verifying delivery accuracy and quality. Working in warm, humid, and wet environments like saunas and pool areas is a daily necessity, reflecting the physical demands and dynamic nature of this role.

Ultimately, the Housekeeping & Laundry Manager ensures that every aspect of facility cleanliness and linen maintenance upholds Island Spa & Sauna’s reputation for excellence. The standard of care provided in this position directly influences guest satisfaction and loyalty, making cleanliness a cornerstone of the guest experience. The manager’s leadership, attention to detail, and proactive approach help create an unmatched atmosphere of comfort and cleanliness where guests feel valued and eager to return.
