The role of Working Leader within the housekeeping department at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or Navy Lodge is essential for ensuring that the highest cleanliness and maintenance standards are met. This position involves both supervisory and hands-on responsibilities. The Working Leader directly oversees and inspects the work of housekeeping team members, ensuring that all tasks from guest room sanitation to public space cleanliness are completed to the required standards. They serve as a key link between the housekeeping staff and management, relaying instructions and maintaining clear communication lines. In addition to leading, the Working Leader actively participates in all housekeeping duties, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and handling linen and trash removal. This blend of leadership and frontline work ensures efficiency and quality control. The role also involves training new associates, providing updates on policies and procedures, and addressing any operational challenges. Regular inspections of rooms, carts, common areas, and laundry facilities fall under this role, supported by detailed documentation to maintain accountability. The Working Leader is responsible for managing supplies and equipment, performing inventory checks, and ordering materials to sustain smooth operations. Exceptional guest relations skills are critical, with the Working Leader expected to greet and assist guests courteously. The position requires vigilance in maintaining guest privacy and security along with safeguarding storeroom items. Additional duties may include managing the self-service breakfast bar’s setup and cleanup, requiring food handling certification. Safety protocols related to blood-borne pathogens and housekeeping operations must be adhered to meticulously. The Working Leader may also need to travel occasionally to other lodging facilities and must hold a valid state driver’s license. The role calls for flexibility, including being prepared to cover for absent supervisors during emergencies or inclement weather. Job Requirements
- Valid state driver's license
- Ability to perform housekeeping duties including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and laundering
- Ability to operate hand and powered cleaning equipment
- Ability to pass background checks
- Ability to obtain food handling certification as applicable
- Ability to work part-time hours between 20 to 34.5 hours per week
- Ability to perform physical tasks required for housekeeping
- Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and procedures
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Six months of housekeeping experience preferred
- Leadership or training experience preferred
Job Duties
- Lead and inspect housekeeping team members in performing duties
- Perform full range of housekeeping services including cleaning guest rooms, public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior spaces
- Train and demonstrate proper work methods to housekeeping personnel
- Maintain housekeeping work records and conduct daily inspections of rooms and facilities
- Manage cleaning supplies, linen, and equipment including inventory and ordering
- Greet and assist guests while maintaining outstanding guest relations
- Handle guest and staff complaints and resolve problems tactfully
