As a government entity committed to excellence, NGIS North Island offers comprehensive employment opportunities with competitive pay and an exceptional benefits package. The organization is situated in San Diego, California, an area well-known for its naval importance and vibrant community support for military families. Working for NGIS North Island means engaging in meaningful work that directly benefits those who serve the nation, while enjoying solid job security and career advancement within a respected federal agency.
The role available is that of a Working Leader for housekeeping services at Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge properties located primarily at Naval Air Station North Island. This full-time federal position provides a salary ranging between $20.52 and $21.38 per hour. As a Working Leader, employees will serve a dual function, undertaking routine housekeeping tasks while also providing leadership and oversight to teams charged with maintaining cleanliness and order throughout guest rooms, public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior spaces.
The position is designed for individuals who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to superior service standards within hospitality environments tailored to military clientele. Responsibilities include training new staff, conducting inspections, inventory management, and delivering exemplary guest relations. The role requires adherence to Navy Exchange Service Command policies and procedures, ensuring safety, security, and quality are maintained at all times. The Working Leader will be a key participant in daily housekeeping operations and also act as a liaison between front-line staff and supervisors to ensure efficient and effective communication.
Ideal candidates will find themselves part of a supportive mission-driven team with access to state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to develop professional housekeeping skills alongside leadership capabilities. The role demands flexibility, including the ability to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts, as well as travel between multiple Navy lodging locations as operational needs dictate. This job does not require prior experience but prefers candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent, some housekeeping experience, and leadership or training background.
Employees joining NGIS North Island as federal workers enjoy one of the best benefit packages in the public sector. This includes paid annual and sick leave, medical and dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, pension plans, 401(k) savings with employer matching, disability coverage, life insurance, pet insurance, and exclusive tax-free shopping privileges. Free bus passes, parking, discounted tickets for Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) events, and access to Navy Lodge hotels worldwide enrich the employment experience, making it not only rewarding but highly supportive of work-life balance.
This role provides individuals who are passionate about service and leadership with a distinct opportunity to make a difference within the military community. With a clear pathway to certification and development, the Working Leader position at NGIS North Island contributes to maintaining the highest standards of hospitality and operational excellence essential for supporting those who serve the country.
