Job Description

The YMCA is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a local and national movement with international reach, the YMCA has been serving its members and communities for over a century, promoting values that emphasize the importance of service, inclusivity, and community building. The Family Center YMCA is a full facility center that offers a diverse range of programs and services designed to meet the needs of all members of the community, including fitness classes, youth programs, and family activities. This facility strives to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Employee roles within the Family Center YMCA are aligned with these mission-driven goals, contributing directly to the growth and retention of membership, thereby increasing community participation and support for charitable programs.

The role of the Housekeeping staff member at the Family Center YMCA, reporting directly to the Facilities Director, is vital to maintaining the high standards and operational effectiveness of the center. This position operates under non-exempt status and focuses on supporting the broader objectives of membership growth and member retention through the maintenance of clean, safe, and well-prepared facilities. The successful candidate will work as an integral member of a dedicated team comprised of Family Center staff and operations professionals committed to delivering a superior member experience.

Housekeeping responsibilities include detailed cleaning of all equipment and facility areas, managing recycling and trash removal from the buildings, and ensuring materials, supplies, and equipment are appropriately handled and stored. The employee will perform thorough nightly inspections and maintain inventory control of housekeeping products and equipment, promptly reporting any maintenance issues that arise. This role demands excellent communication skills and the ability to function independently while effectively prioritizing tasks. The ability to safely operate and maintain equipment used in cleaning is essential.

Beyond daily cleaning duties, the role also encompasses preparing and breaking down meeting set-ups, thereby supporting the numerous programs and meetings held at the YMCA. This position prominently contributes to the overall effectiveness of the Family Center in accomplishing its mission-related goals, such as increasing membership and membership revenue, enhancing community understanding of YMCA programs, and achieving key program participation and attendance targets.

Candidates are expected to bring at least three years of experience in housekeeping or maintenance, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a general understanding of the YMCA's local and global operational scope. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, manual dexterity for handling phones and equipment, and the ability to lift fifty pounds or more. The YMCA values competencies like being mission and community-oriented, people-oriented, results-oriented, and committed to personal development, which are crucial for success in this role. As part of the hiring process, candidates must complete a criminal background check and drug screening. The Family Center YMCA fosters an equal employment opportunity environment and supports reasonable accommodations where necessary.
