Job Description
Banner Health is a nationally recognized healthcare provider committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to the communities it serves. Located in Glendale, Arizona, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center (BTMC) is a premier healthcare facility and a pivotal part of the Banner Health network. BTMC proudly holds a Level I Trauma designation for adult care and serves as a tertiary care destination for patients of all ages. It features specialized services in surgical care, oncology, cardiovascular treatments, neuroscience, orthopedics, pediatrics, as well as women and infant care. The facility boasts a 5-star CMS rating that underscores its dedication to patient safety, quality care, and excellent patient experiences. With a workforce of over 3000 employees, BTMC ranks among the largest campuses within the Banner network and was honored with the prestigious Best of the Best award in 2023, recognizing its consistent achievement of annual performance goals.
The Housekeeping Environmental Services (EVS) Associate role at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is integral to maintaining the facility's cleanliness and overall environment. This full-time night shift position (11 PM to 7:30 AM) requires a dedicated individual to ensure that patient rooms and assigned areas receive thorough cleaning, sanitizing, and upkeep, which are essential to preserving a safe and welcoming healthcare environment. The job involves a variety of cleaning tasks including dusting, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming, and polishing, following stringent hospital protocols and departmental procedures. Given the healthcare setting, associates may be required to clean specialized areas such as morgues or COVID-19 units, working with potentially hazardous materials including bodily fluids and cleaning chemicals.
This position is physically demanding and fast paced, requiring extensive walking and the ability to push heavy cleaning carts. Teamwork and excellent communication with both medical staff and fellow housekeeping personnel are critical to successfully managing daily responsibilities. The role includes responsibilities such as emptying medical waste containers—including sharps—restocking supplies, and maintaining cleaning equipment. Additionally, employees may participate in special projects like window or wall washing and the removal of heavily soiled furnishings.
At Banner Health, the commitment to employees extends beyond their daily tasks. Workers in this role receive a flat rate weekend shift differential of $1 per hour and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. Weekend and holiday rotations are part of the position, further emphasizing dedication to service at all times. Background checks and drug screening are mandatory, and the organization requires its employees to receive an annual flu vaccine to ensure community health. Banner Health prides itself on being a certified Great Place To Work®, emphasizing a positive work environment where team members are supported and valued.
Joining Banner Thunderbird Medical Center as a Housekeeping EVS Associate offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient care through environmental stewardship. Those who seek a vital role in healthcare with consistent hours, supportive management, and benefits that acknowledge hard work will find this career path rewarding. Banner Health’s mission to be the best place to work in healthcare is reflected in the strong culture and commitment to employee success and patient wellbeing that defines the workplace at BTMC.
