Job Description
The hiring organization for this opportunity is the Pearl Harbor facility located in Honolulu, Hawaii, which operates the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites along with Navy Lodge properties. These establishments are part of the broader Department of the Navy's effort to provide quality lodging and services primarily for active duty military personnel, retirees, reservists, and their families. As federal government organizations, these lodging facilities uphold a strong mission to support the military community with excellent customer service and provide affordable, comfortable accommodations. The Pearl Harbor housing facilities are well-known for their dedication to service excellence and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction. They operate with a focus on improving quality of life programs tailored to military families and support personnel stationed in or visiting Hawaii. The employment type is federal, part-time, with varying hours between 20 to 34.5 hours per week. The starting pay for this role is $24.90 per hour, providing competitive wages in the local market and reflecting the importance of the position within the federal employment framework. The role being offered is for a Housekeeper who will regularly perform the full range and scope of housekeeping services at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge properties. The responsibilities include cleaning guest rooms, public interior spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, and more. Essential cleaning tasks involve vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving furniture items, polishing surfaces, debris removal, trash disposal, and the transportation of clean and dirty linens and towels. The housekeeper will also use both manual and power-operated cleaning equipment to execute duties efficiently. Beyond routine cleaning, the position demands attention to detail such as washing walls, partitions, air vents, and disinfecting bathroom areas including toilets, lavatories, and tubs. Tasks also extend to cleaning kitchen areas comprising stoves, ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, cabinets, and floors along with washing and disinfecting dishes, cookware, and utensils. The role includes supporting the operational readiness of the lodging environment, such as ensuring the availability and proper functioning of guest room amenities like televisions, alarm clocks, and telephones. Housekeepers also place necessities such as consumable and non-consumable items in rooms and manage linen replacement including inspecting mattresses and pull-out sofas. Exceptional guest relations skills are important as housekeepers greet and welcome guests consistently, ensuring privacy and security throughout their stay. Additional duties include cleaning and maintaining common areas like corridors, stairways, laundry rooms, patios, and balconies, as well as conducting scheduled deep cleaning such as shampooing carpets and spot treatments, particularly for pet-friendly rooms or those used by guests with service animals. Housekeepers must maintain the cleanliness and order of storage rooms, report maintenance needs, inspect exterior spaces, assist with supply receipt and storage, and may be required to load and unload trucks or vans. Key responsibilities also encompass safety and security training, housekeeping certification within six months, and possibly holding a valid driver’s license for travel between lodging properties. This role is ideal for individuals who appreciate working in a structured, service-oriented environment and who seek to contribute meaningfully to supporting military communities. The Pearl Harbor team offers a dynamic workplace with excellent benefits and opportunities for growth under the federal employment umbrella. Those who join will become part of a proud tradition of service and dedication to quality lodging experiences for military members and their families, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at one of the busiest naval facilities in the country.
