The role of a Housekeeping Services Staff member at NGIS Hawaii involves performing a wide range of cleaning and maintenance duties at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites or Navy Lodge properties. This position requires working with various cleaning tools and equipment to maintain guest rooms, public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior spaces in pristine condition. The duties include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, polishing, and debris removal, ensuring that all areas meet or exceed the established cleanliness and safety standards.

Housekeeping staff members also handle linen and towel transport, perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment, and uphold guest privacy and security consistently. Job Duties

  • Cleans guest rooms and other assigned areas
  • operates cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, waxer, and polisher
  • empties wastebaskets, dusts, waxes, and polishes room furniture
  • washes walls, partitions, air vents, disinfects and deodorizes toilet bowls and lavatories
  • washes and replaces window treatments and cleans ceiling fixtures
  • changes light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds
  • moves furniture to clean under and behind, uses step stool to clean window and window treatments, cabinet tops, mirrors, and picture frames
  • cleans bathroom areas including tub, tile, walls, commode, floors, and vanity
  • cleans kitchen area including stoves, ovens, microwave, refrigerator, cabinets, and floor
  • washes and disinfects dishes, utensils, and cookware
  • cleans iron and ironing board and replaces cover as necessary
  • ensures proper functionality of luggage racks and availability of male and female hangers in closets
  • ensures TVs are clean and programmed, alarm clocks and in-room phones are properly set and in working condition
  • places proper number of amenities in rooms
  • removes and replaces bed linen and inspects mattresses and pull-out sofas
  • moves and repositions beds upon guest request or checkout
  • greets and welcomes guests maintaining outstanding guest relations
  • ensures privacy and security of guests
  • cleans corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios, balconies, shampoos rugs and carpets, and polishes rails
  • performs scheduled carpet cleaning with heavy industrial equipment
  • performs deep cleaning as required including defrosting refrigerators and spot cleaning
  • maintains cleanliness and order of storage rooms
  • communicates room and area status to supervisor
  • accomplishes minor repairs and reports major repair needs
  • cleans and inspects exterior spaces
  • loads and unloads trucks or vans and assists with receipt of supplies
  • responsible for assigned keys and returns them at shift end
  • reports unusual circumstances immediately
  • manages lost and found items
  • sets up and breaks down self-service breakfast bar and replenishes breakfast items
  • completes required safety and security training
  • maintains a clean and safe environment following safety protocols
