Job Description
Navy Gateway Inns and Suites, operated under the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) Enterprise, plays a critical role in providing quality lodging, hospitality, and customer support specifically tailored for active duty military members, retirees, reservists, and their families. Located in San Diego, California, the North Island organization is proud to offer these essential services that promote comfort, convenience, and enhanced quality of life for our nation’s military community. As a federal employee working within this esteemed environment, you have the unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a mission-oriented institution with a strong commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction. The Navy Gateway Inns and Suites facilities include Navy Lodges and other on-base lodging properties designed to offer affordable and well-maintained accommodations for military personnel and their guests. This organization thrives on a dedicated workforce that ensures all guests receive exceptional hospitality experiences characterized by cleanliness, safety, and attentive service.
This position is for a Part-Time Housekeeping team member, offering between 20 to 34.5 hours per week, with an hourly pay range of $18.66 to $19.44 depending on experience. As a Housekeeper, your central responsibility will be to perform comprehensive housekeeping services throughout the lodge and inn properties. This involves the cleaning and upkeep of guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior spaces to the highest standards. Your role is fundamental in creating a welcoming, safe, and comfortable environment for guests by using both hand and electric-powered cleaning equipment.
Your work will cover a wide array of duties, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, debris removal, laundry handling, furniture polishing, and the maintenance of appliances and fixtures. The job requires attention to detail, from changing linens and placing amenities to performing deep cleaning tasks for pet-friendly or ADA service animal rooms. You will utilize specialized equipment like industrial carpet cleaners and other powered tools while also ensuring the proper functioning of room electronics such as televisions, alarm clocks, and in-room telephones.
Besides cleaning, this role emphasizes excellent guest relations, privacy, and security. Greeting guests warmly and maintaining professional conduct at all times is a vital part of the position. You will also be responsible for minor repair work, equipment maintenance, loss prevention by reporting missing items, and compliance with all safety and health protocols.
Training and certification requirements include completion of all safety and security training, knowledge of blood-borne pathogen safety, and obtaining NHG housekeeping certification within six months of employment if required. A valid driver's license may also be necessary for traveling between lodging facilities. Joining the NEXCOM Enterprise means being part of a stable and rewarding career path, supported by a comprehensive benefits package that is one of the best available. This includes paid annual and sick leave, medical and dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, pension plans, 401k savings, life insurance, and tax-free shopping privileges.
This position is ideal for individuals seeking employment without prior experience, as it provides on-the-job training and growth opportunities. Physical requirements involve moderate effort including moving furniture and using cleaning equipment. The position demands conscientious and reliable team members dedicated to maintaining the Navy’s quality standards for guest accommodations.
