Job Description
The United States Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is a leading organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for active-duty military personnel, retirees, reservists, and their families by providing top-notch retail goods, services, and support programs. NEXCOM operates a vast network of facilities, including Navy Gateway Inns and Suites and Navy Lodges, designed to cater to the diverse needs of military members and their communities. By working directly with the Navy, NEXCOM ensures that its mission of delivering value and improving morale is upheld with the highest standards of excellence. Employees at NEXCOM enjoy the security and benefits of federal employment, including competitive pay, comprehensive health coverage, retirement plans, and unique privileges such as tax-free shopping and access to Navy Lodge hotels worldwide.
This particular position is located on San Nicolas Island, a unique and isolated location, where the successful candidate will be provided with on-island housing to ensure convenience and comfort. Additionally, the position includes no-cost flights between Point Mugu and San Nicolas Island during the days off, making travel to and from the island hassle-free. Due to the nature of the location and operational needs, the employee must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, showcasing adaptability and commitment.
The role falls under the grade NA02, with salary details not applicable, as positions in federal employment often adhere to specified pay scales and benefits. The primary responsibility of this position is to perform comprehensive housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inns and Suites or Navy Lodge property. This involves a complete range of cleaning tasks including guest rooms, public interior spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, and exterior environments.
Housekeeping duties encompass vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving furniture, polishing, cleaning, and removal of debris and trash. The employee will also handle the transportation and management of clean and dirty linens and towels. The position requires proficiency in using both hand and powered cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
This role demands a high level of attention to detail, physical effort in moving furniture, and the ability to maintain cleanliness in all areas to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for guests. The housekeeper will also maintain security and privacy of guests, manage room amenities, and ensure that in-room technology and fixtures, such as televisions, alarm clocks, and phones, are properly cleaned, programmed, and functional.
Additional responsibilities include performing minor maintenance, reporting issues promptly, handling keys securely, and communicating effectively with supervisors about room statuses and special circumstances. The position also involves housekeeping tasks related to self-service breakfast areas, food handling certifications, and adherence to safety protocols specific to hospitality operations in military lodging.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to a vital service within the military community in a federal employment role, offering a supportive work environment, job stability, and an outstanding benefits package. No prior experience is required, though a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. The role is physically active and requires the capability to perform duties that involve moderate physical effort. Overall, this position is an essential component of the mission to provide quality lodging and support services to military personnel and their families on San Nicolas Island.
