Job Description

NAVSTA San Diego is a prominent United States Navy installation located in San Diego, California, dedicated to supporting the Navy community and its mission. As one of the largest naval bases on the West Coast, it plays a critical role in national defense by providing essential support services and facilities to active-duty military personnel, retirees, reservists, and their families. The base is committed to maintaining high-quality standards in its operations and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for its service members and visitors. NAVSTA San Diego offers various roles within its organization that contribute to these overarching goals by delivering exceptional service and operational excellence.

This position as a Housekeeper at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites, or Navy Lodge at NAVSTA San Diego, offers an exciting opportunity to become a federal employee with a meaningful role in supporting quality of life programs for military members and their families. The pay range for this role is between $18.66 and $19.44 per hour, dependent on experience, with a flexible schedule offering up to 19.5 hours per week. While no previous experience is required, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. This role involves a comprehensive range of housekeeping duties aimed at maintaining cleanliness, order, and safety within guest rooms, public spaces, and exterior areas. The position demands attention to detail, strong work ethic, and a commitment to excellent customer service, ensuring every guest experiences the highest standards of hospitality.

Housekeepers regularly perform extensive cleaning tasks including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and washing surfaces across various areas such as guest rooms, hallways, laundry rooms, storage areas, and outdoor spaces. Using both manual and powered cleaning equipment, employees must ensure rooms are spotless, furniture polished, trash removed, and linens appropriately managed. Additional responsibilities cover disinfecting bathroom fixtures, cleaning kitchen appliances, maintaining windows and light fixtures, and reorganizing furniture as needed. Housekeepers also manage in-room amenities, inspect mattresses and bedding, and ensure electronic devices like TVs and phones are cleaned and functional.

Beyond the routine cleaning, housekeepers play a vital role in guest relations by greeting visitors warmly and maintaining guest privacy and security at all times. The role also involves specialized tasks such as deep cleaning pet-friendly rooms or rooms with ADA service animals, carpet shampooing using industrial equipment, and performing minor maintenance or reporting equipment needing repairs. Employees are expected to communicate daily progress updates to supervisors and participate in maintaining clean and organized storage and laundry facilities.

The position also includes occasional duties like unloading supply deliveries, handling luggage racks, and managing keys responsibly. Housekeepers may assist with setting up and cleaning up after the complimentary self-service breakfast bar, requiring food handling certification. Compliance with safety protocols, such as handling blood-borne pathogens and general workplace safety training, is essential. Candidates must be physically capable of performing moderate physical effort tasks and may need a valid state driver’s license to travel between lodging facilities as required. Certification within the NEXCOM Hospitality Group may be required within six months of employment.

Working for NAVSTA San Diego's NEXCOM Enterprise means joining a team dedicated to serving the military community with pride, professionalism, and respect. Employees benefit from attractive perks including tax-free shopping privileges, free bus passes or parking, discounted tickets at Morale, Welfare, and Recreation venues, and access to Navy Lodge hotels worldwide, enhancing the overall employment experience. This housekeeper role is ideal for individuals looking to start or grow a career in hospitality within a supportive and mission-driven federal agency.
