The Housekeeping Attendant role at the Lincoln campus is a full-time, day-shift position within the Environmental Services department. This role is vital for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the various areas of the hospital. The Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for the cleaning and disinfecting of offices, restrooms, utility rooms, kitchenettes, nurses stations, report rooms, conference rooms, halls, lab areas, as well as resident and patient rooms. The scope of work also includes common areas such as lounges and linen closets, ensuring all spaces meet the infection control and safety standards essential in a healthcare environment.
In this role, the Housekeeping Attendant operates various commercial and small vacuum cleaners to maintain carpeted areas, cleans vents to promote quality airflow, dusts and sanitizes surfaces including fire doors, furniture, bed frames, mattresses, and equipment. The attendant is also responsible for managing supplies, handling wet and dry mops for hard surface areas, and scrubbing and disinfecting restrooms, showers, and kitchenettes in accordance with established guidelines. Safety is paramount; therefore, the attendant ensures the environment remains safe for patients, visitors, and staff by following all regulatory compliance and organizational safety procedures.
The position requires physical effort, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, constant walking and standing, stooping, crouching, and reaching frequently. Tasks also involve pushing and pulling a handcart with supplies and equipment throughout the cleaning routes. Additionally, when working at the Lincoln campus, the incumbent may be required to drive a motor vehicle, necessitating a valid Nebraska driver’s license and a clean driving record.
This role demands a responsible and detail-oriented individual capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining positive and professional communication skills under adverse conditions. Previous institutional cleaning experience is preferred, as well as basic math and reading skills. Job Duties
- Operate commercial and small vacuums to clean all assigned carpeted areas and vacuum hall register vents to promote quality air flow
- Dust and clean fire doors, under lounge furniture, baseboards, wall and ceiling lights according to established guidelines
- Dust and clean designated equipment, furniture, door and window surfaces
- Dust and wash bed frames and mattresses according to established guidelines
- Maintain and distribute supplies to designated areas to ensure adequate stock
- Handle wet and dry mops to clean and disinfect hard surface areas
- Scrub and disinfect all designated restrooms, utility rooms, shower/tub, kitchenettes according to department guidelines
