Job Description
Wheeler Mission Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Indianapolis community. As an evangelical Christian ministry, its core mission revolves around sharing the Gospel and providing support to individuals experiencing homelessness and those in need. The ministry operates with a Christ-centered purpose, emphasizing faith, stewardship, excellence, grace, and truth as foundational values. Every position within Wheeler Mission Ministries is treated as an integral part of its broader ministry, where employees are not only staff members but also active participants in the spiritual mission of the organization. From leadership to frontline team members, each individual is encouraged to maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and uphold the ministry's Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Core Values, and Employment Qualifications continuously throughout their tenure.
The Housekeeping Associate position at Wheeler Mission Ministries offers a unique opportunity to contribute both practically and spiritually to the well-being of vulnerable populations. Operating primarily within the Shelter for Men team, this full-time, non-exempt role is crucial in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for homeless individuals seeking refuge and support. The facilities under care include a variety of areas such as kitchens, dining rooms, residential spaces, sleeping quarters, and orientation rooms, all requiring diligent maintenance and cleaning.
The Housekeeping Associate’s responsibilities extend beyond routine cleaning tasks. This person is expected to uphold the ministry's high standards for sanitation and hygiene through tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, cleaning restrooms and shower rooms, handling laundry services including bed linens, and even addressing outdoor needs like shoveling and salting snow. General maintenance duties also fall under this role, including minor repairs, painting, and monitoring equipment functionality. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and reporting facility issues are paramount.
This position requires flexibility, as some evening or weekend work may be necessary. Additionally, the Associate should be willing and able to travel occasionally to other Wheeler Mission facilities to ensure consistent standards are met across the ministry. While this role does not have direct reports, there may be opportunities to assist with the supervision of volunteers, further deepening involvement in the ministry’s community and operational goals.
Commitment to the organization's faith-based mission is essential. The Housekeeping Associate must demonstrate personal integrity and alignment with Wheeler Mission Ministries’ spiritual and ethical standards. Candidates are required to pass background checks, adhere to drug and alcohol policies, and maintain sobriety. Physical endurance is also important, as the role involves remaining on one’s feet for long periods, navigating stairs, and operating cleaning machinery and equipment.
Overall, this role is ideal for a dependable, detail-oriented individual who seeks to blend practical work with purposeful ministry, contributing to a compassionate and faith-driven effort to uplift those experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis.
