Job Requirements

  • sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • prior housekeeping experience in an institutional setting preferred
  • freedom from illegal use of drugs
  • freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
  • no history of abuse, neglect or mistreatment in a health care related setting
  • effective time management skills
  • ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building and assist residents in emergencies
  • ability to carry out essential functions with or without accommodation
  • ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • availability for occasional travel
  • physical ability to transfer patients weighing 10 to 65 pounds
  • close, distance and peripheral vision abilities

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • carry out all duties in accord with the facility mission and philosophy
  • demonstrate knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident
  • appreciate the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information
  • demonstrate honesty and integrity in the care and use of resident and facility property
  • clean assigned resident rooms, bathrooms and common areas daily according to facility procedures
  • respect resident's privacy and preferences about room arrangement and personal items
  • knock before entering resident rooms and bathrooms
  • clean walls, ceilings, windows, mirrors, and waxed floors according to department procedures and cleaning schedules
  • take appropriate actions to secure housekeeping supplies out of reach of residents at all times
  • dispose of trash and waste, including biohazardous waste, only in accordance with facility policies and procedures
  • post signs indicating safety hazards when housekeeping activities pose environmental hazards
  • use personal protective equipment as required
  • comply with safety instructions and procedures when using chemical substances
  • monitor and report all evidence of rodents or pests
  • communicate with Director of Housekeeping & Laundry regarding state inspections and training
  • report injury to self or others immediately
  • attend in-service education programs and apply information to job tasks
  • monitor workplace for safety and fire hazards and report potential problems
  • participate in fire and disaster drills and carry out assigned duties during emergencies
  • perform all other housekeeping duties as assigned
