Job Description
Marriott International is a globally recognized leader in the hospitality industry, known for its commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. As one of the world's largest and most respected hotel chains, Marriott Worldwide operates a broad portfolio of brands, including Courtyard by Marriott, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of business travelers. Courtyard is renowned for its innovative approach to hospitality, combining functionality, comfort, and style to create memorable stays for guests whether they are traveling for business or leisure. Marriott International is dedicated to being an equal opportunity employer, embracing diversity, valuing unique perspectives, and creating access to opportunity for all associates regardless of their background, disability status, veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics.
This particular opportunity is for a full-time, non-management Housekeeper position located at Courtyard by Marriott in Detroit, Michigan. The role offers a competitive pay rate of $20.92 per hour. The Housekeeper will be a vital part of the hotel’s operations, ensuring that guest rooms and public areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction. The position demands open availability and a proactive approach to supporting both guests and other hotel departments.
The Housekeeper will respond promptly to guest requests and interdepartmental needs, ensuring any maintenance concerns are identified and reported quickly to prevent issues. Responsibilities include posting caution signs when necessary to maintain guest and staff safety, delivering guest requests, and setting up furniture items in guest rooms as needed. The role also involves the safe removal of items from hallways and transporting them to designated areas, including debris, trays from room service, unread newspapers, soiled linens, and trash kept near housekeeping carts.
In addition to keeping the hotel environment orderly, the Housekeeper must also clean, maintain, and store cleaning equipment correctly in adherence to company policies. Safety is paramount; therefore, the Housekeeper is expected to follow all safety and security protocols, report any hazards or accidents, and complete required safety training and certifications. The role requires the proper handling and storage of flammable materials and maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Guest interaction is an essential component of this role. The Housekeeper is expected to welcome and acknowledge all guests according to Marriott’s quality standards, anticipate guest needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and express genuine appreciation for guests during interactions. Effective communication in a clear and professional manner is necessary to support a collaborative team environment aimed at achieving shared goals and exceeding quality expectations.
Physically, the role requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 55 pounds independently and with assistance for heavier items. The Housekeeper must be capable of operating housekeeping carts and other machinery on uneven surfaces, reach, bend, twist, pull, stoop, and perform duties involving fine motor skills and coordination. Mobility through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces and climbing ladders may also be required, along with the stamina to stand, sit, kneel, or walk for extended periods throughout a work shift.
Overall, this role is suited for individuals who are dedicated to maintaining high standards in a dynamic environment, enjoy working as part of a team, and are passionate about delivering superior guest service. At Courtyard by Marriott Detroit, the Housekeeper will join a vibrant global team focused on continuous learning, improvement, and creating a positive workplace – all within a supportive and inclusive culture.
