The Environmental Services department at Monument Health Spearfish Hospital plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, hospital staff, and residents. The Housekeeper/Custodian position is integral to the department’s mission, focusing on sanitation and upkeep to ensure all areas meet strict cleanliness and safety standards. This position is full-time, with a scheduled 40-hour workweek and a pay range starting from $16.60 to $19.08 per hour, dependent on the applicant’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
As a Housekeeper/Custodian, employees are responsible for executing routine cleaning tasks such as shampooing, buffing, bed washing, furniture cleaning, and refrigerator cleaning. The role requires careful adherence to checklists and accurate documentation of work completed, including entering work orders into the computer system. Employees receive in-service training to operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, aiming for zero complaints during inspections related to equipment operation, disposal of hazardous and medical wastes, and overall cleanliness. The role demands physical stamina to perform heavy work, often involving lifting and moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of housekeeping or custodian experience
- Ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department
- Physical ability to perform heavy work including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Willingness to adhere to safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to handle potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues
- Strong communication and reporting skills
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of housekeeping or custodian experience
- Knowledge of proper equipment operation and sanitation procedures
- Ability to follow safety and disposal guidelines
- Basic computer skills for work order entry
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Job Duties
- Complete checklists accurately for shampooing, buffing, bed washing, furniture cleaning and refrigerators
- Enter all work orders in the computer
- Operate equipment using proper procedures with minimal complaints
- Follow proper disposal procedures for hazardous and medical waste
- Provide a safe environment through proper operation, care and storage of equipment
- Report all broken equipment and damage to hospital property to supervisor or charge person
- Perform other duties as assigned
