The Environmental Services department at Monument Health Spearfish Hospital plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, patients, visitors, and hospital staff. The role of a Housekeeper in this department is vital to upholding the hospital’s high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Individuals in this position are responsible for performing various cleaning duties such as shampooing, buffing floors, washing beds, cleaning furniture and refrigerators, and entering work orders into the computer system. They must operate cleaning equipment correctly, following established procedures, and ensure proper disposal of hazardous and medical waste according to guidelines. This position requires attention to detail and a commitment to safety, as employees must report any broken equipment or property damage immediately. The role demands physical stamina due to the nature of the work, which involves exerting significant physical force and potential exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
The position is scheduled for 40 hours weekly and offers a starting pay range of $16.60 to $19.08, dependent on the applicant’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 1 year housekeeping or custodian experience
- Ability to work assigned schedules and hours
- Physical ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force constantly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Willingness to handle possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks accurately and safely
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of housekeeping or custodian experience
- Knowledge of proper equipment operation procedures
- Understanding of hazardous and medical waste disposal guidelines
- Ability to follow detailed checklists accurately
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
Job Duties
- Complete checklists accurately for shampooing, buffing, bed washing, furniture cleaning and refrigerators
- Enter all work orders in the computer
- Operate cleaning equipment using proper procedures
- Follow proper disposal procedures for hazardous and medical waste
- Provide a safe environment through proper operation, care, and storage of equipment
- Report all broken equipment and damage to hospital property to supervisor or charge person
- Perform other duties as assigned
