Job Description

Advocate Health is the third-largest nonprofit integrated health system in the United States, formed by the merger of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. Serving nearly 6 million patients with a deep commitment to clinical innovation, health outcomes, and consumer experience, Advocate Health operates under various well-respected names including Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. With its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health is a national leader in several specialties, such as cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, and specialized programs including organ transplants and burn treatments. The organization employs approximately 155,000 teammates across 69 hospitals and over 1,000 care locations. Advocate Health is also heavily invested in education, offering one of the nation’s largest graduate medical education programs with more than 2,000 residents and fellows enrolled in over 200 programs. They provide over 6 billion dollars in annual community benefits and are recognized for fostering equitable care for all patients regardless of background.

This particular full-time Environmental Services position within Advocate Health’s BayCare Leased Employees department offers a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of patient care areas, surgical rooms, restrooms, and other hospital and public spaces. Working 30 hours per week with schedule specifics of Monday to Friday from 4:00 pm to 9:30 pm and every other weekend from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, this role is essential for supporting infection control and ensuring a safe, sanitary environment for patients, caregivers, and visitors alike. The hourly pay range is competitive, between $18.85 and $28.30, reflecting the importance of skilled environmental service professionals.

The Environmental Services team member will be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting all environmental surfaces including ceilings, vents, walls, doors, furniture, beds, bathroom fixtures, and windows. The role includes handling emergency spills, mopping floors, dusting, replacing cubicle and window coverings, and managing waste disposal including hazardous materials and medical waste according to proper protocols. Linen management, supply inventory, and equipment upkeep are also key components to this role. Strong organizational skills are required to keep non-medical supplies, linens, and cleaning equipment orderly and readily accessible.

Physical demands include lifting up to 35 pounds from floor to 5 feet, carrying up to 20 pounds at waist height, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, and the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and stand or walk for the majority of the shift. The role also requires operating various cleaning machinery and tools such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, automatic scrubbers and safely handling potentially infectious materials while wearing appropriate protective clothing.

This position does not require formal education, licensure, or experience, but demands excellent customer service skills, basic computer literacy, and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully. The Environmental Services professional must be capable of working independently without disrupting healthcare operations and must consistently prioritize departmental policies and procedures.

Advocate Health’s commitment to its teammates is exemplified in its Total Rewards program, which includes competitive base compensation, shift premiums where applicable, incentive pay for select positions, and opportunities for annual performance-based increases. Benefits encompass paid time off, health insurance including medical, dental, and vision, life insurance, disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, financial wellness programs, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, and education assistance, ensuring a comprehensive support structure for employees.
