Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health serves nearly 6 million patients and is deeply involved in hundreds of clinical trials and research initiatives. The organization collaborates closely with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, which acts as the academic core for the enterprise. Advocate Health is nationally acclaimed for its expertise in a variety of specialties such as cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, organ transplants, burn treatments, and specialized musculoskeletal programs.
With a workforce of approximately 155,000 teammates working across 69 hospitals and over 1,000 care locations, Advocate Health offers comprehensive healthcare services and one of the country’s largest graduate medical education programs. The system supports over 2,000 residents and fellows in more than 200 programs. Advocate Health is deeply committed to equity in care, providing more than $6 billion annually in community benefits, underscoring its mission to support healthier communities.
The part-time Environmental Services role within the BayCare leased employees department offers an opportunity to be part of this esteemed health system. This position is pivotal in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout various patient care and public areas, thereby supporting the overall mission of patient safety and quality care. Working 20 hours per week, typically from 7:00am to 3:30pm including every other weekend and some holidays, this role provides hourly compensation ranging from $18.85 to $28.30. The position includes eligibility for benefits, making it an attractive opportunity for individuals seeking flexible work hours with a reputable healthcare employer.
The Environmental Services team plays a crucial role in ensuring that all patient care areas, surgical suites, restrooms, lobbies, offices, elevators, and stairwells are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards. The duties include cleaning environmental surfaces such as ceilings, vents, walls, doors, furniture, beds, bathroom fixtures, and windows. Employees assist in managing emergency spills and are responsible for cleaning floors, dusting, replacing window coverings, and properly sorting and disposing of various waste types, including hazardous materials according to infection control guidelines.
Team members also have essential responsibilities related to linen management, including sorting, stocking, delivering, and preparing soiled linens for transportation. The role requires cleaning and preparing dismissal and transfer units and certain patient care equipment, filling and cleaning supply dispensers, and maintaining inventory of linens, cleaning supplies, and paper products. This inventory management also involves timely and cost-effective ordering to ensure operational efficiency.
Physical demands of the role include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling weights up to 50 lbs, frequent walking and standing, and the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and crawl. Employees work with various cleaning tools and equipment, including vacuum cleaners, mopping machines, buffers, burnishers, automatic scrubbers, and ladders up to six feet high. The use of protective clothing is required due to exposure to strong germicidal solutions, chemicals, infectious waste, and soiled linens. The ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, and provide excellent customer service is essential for success in this role, along with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently without disrupting facility operations.
Overall, this Environmental Services position at Advocate Health offers a fulfilling, dynamic work experience for candidates interested in playing a vital part in healthcare facility maintenance and patient safety. The role promises not only competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits but also the opportunity to contribute to one of the nation’s leading health systems committed to innovation, education, and community well-being.
