We are currently seeking a PRN Housekeeper to join our team. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The role involves performing a variety of housekeeping duties including cleaning resident rooms, common areas, bathrooms, and other facility spaces according to established schedules and procedures. As a PRN (pro re nata or as-needed) housekeeper, the candidate will have the flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and potentially during emergency situations such as severe weather or evacuations.
The PRN Housekeeper is expected to follow strict infection control protocols and use appropriate cleaning agents and equipment to disinfect surfaces, handle infectious waste safely, and maintain compliance with health and safety regulations. They will work closely with nursing and other departments to coordinate cleaning tasks without disrupting resident care. This position demands a high level of attention to detail, physical endurance, and the ability to cope with sometimes stressful and emotionally charged interactions with residents, their families, and staff. Successful candidates should be capable of working independently while demonstrating flexibility and strong communication skills.
This role involves physical tasks including moving intermittently throughout the workday, lifting supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds, and coping with exposure to cleaning chemicals, odors, and other environmental conditions. It also includes responsibilities such as reporting incidents, maintaining accurate work schedules, and participating in ongoing educational programs to stay current with housekeeping best practices and safety standards. Job Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be able to speak and write English in an understandable manner
- Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must possess adequate sight and hearing or use prosthetics
- Must function independently with personal integrity and flexibility
- Must meet general health requirements including medical and physical examination
- Must relate well with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset or hostile people
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and frequently push/pull housekeeping carts
- May assist in evacuation during emergencies
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior housekeeping or janitorial experience in healthcare or similar environment beneficial
- Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures and schedules
- Knowledge of infection control and sanitation standards
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to perform tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays
Job Duties
- Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
- Report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately
- Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services
- Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned
- Clean and sanitize resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and common spaces
- Empty ash trays into proper metal containers daily
- Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting
- Vacuum and shampoo carpets
- Clean walls, ceilings, windows, mirrors, furnishings, fixtures
- Discard waste and reline trash receptacles
- Perform isolation cleaning following infection control procedures
- Handle infectious waste and hazardous chemicals safely
- Communicate effectively with residents, personnel, and visitors
- Work beyond normal hours and respond to emergency call-backs as needed
- Attend continuing education programs
