Job Description

Guide Dogs for the Blind is a reputable nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the mobility and independence of individuals who are visually impaired or blind. Established in 1942, it has grown to become North America's largest guide dog school, successfully graduating more than 16,000 guide dog teams throughout the United States and Canada. The mission of Guide Dogs for the Blind is profoundly impactful as it not only enhances safe mobility for clients but also fosters greater inclusion and confidence in their daily lives. The organization operates from its campus in Boring, Oregon, where it offers comprehensive training and services for guide dog recipients. Guide Dogs for the Blind values diversity and inclusiveness, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds and actively encouraging applications from individuals with disabilities, including those who are blind or visually impaired. This inclusive culture reflects the organization's commitment to respecting and appreciating the unique contributions of every employee.

The role of Housekeeper/Relief Cook at Guide Dogs for the Blind is a unique opportunity for individuals with housekeeping and culinary skills to contribute to a meaningful and fulfilling mission. This position is instrumental in maintaining a welcoming and clean environment for clients visiting the campus to train with their guide dogs. It involves a blend of housekeeping duties and food preparation tasks, ensuring that the Residence facility is pristine and that clients and staff are served nutritious meals. The position is a day shift role from Thursday through Monday, 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, offering stable scheduling for prospective candidates. Individuals in this position will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness throughout the campus facilities, adhering closely to clients' preferences and requests, and stepping in to cover absences or assist during special events. Kitchen responsibilities include preparing and serving meals in accordance with food safety and handling procedures. Communication is key in this role, as the Housekeeper/Relief Cook will regularly interact with clients, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors, and other teammates to provide top-quality service and ensure a positive experience for everyone on campus. This role is perfect for those who enjoy varied tasks, thrive as part of a team, and are motivated by making a tangible difference in the lives of people they serve.
