Job Description
Northwest Texas Healthcare System is a prominent 495-bed healthcare provider serving Amarillo and its neighboring regions. This healthcare system combines traditional values with advanced technological healthcare solutions, set within the unique context of a friendly, smaller-town atmosphere joined with the conveniences of big city living. Amarillo stands out not only for its healthcare excellence but also for its vibrant community, scenic attractions such as Palo Duro Canyon, excellent recreational facilities, and a quality educational system, making it an attractive place for both living and working. The organization emphasizes the critical role of its employees, acknowledging that the quality of a hospital's care directly depends on the professionalism, dedication, and passion of its workforce. They seek employees who are committed to exemplary patient care and personal excellence, aligning with the company’s vision and values.
The role in focus is the Environmental Services Worker/Housekeeper position within the Northwest Texas Healthcare System. This role is integral to maintaining a clean and sterile environment across the hospital, contributing directly to patient safety and comfort. The Environmental Services Worker/Housekeeper may be assigned to various cleaning positions including patient areas, non-patient areas, trash handling, special care units, and other necessary locations, adapting to the hospital’s dynamic needs. The position requires a professional demeanor while interacting with patients of all ages (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics), their families, and coworkers, consistently upholding service excellence standards.
Fundamental responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting all areas within the hospital. The role also involves participation in special project work such as wall and window washing, light fixture cleaning, upholstery cleaning, replacing curtains and drapes, vent cleaning, scrubbing restrooms, floor stripping, and carpet extracting. This position requires a strong willingness to perform routine and repetitive tasks with close supervision, managing frequent interruptions while prioritizing cleanliness and safety for patients, staff, and visitors. The Environmental Services Worker is expected to exercise judgment for task scheduling and ensure availability of proper supplies and equipment to complete assignments efficiently. Safety compliance following the policies of both Medi-Dyn and Northwest Texas Healthcare System is mandatory, along with prompt reporting of unsafe conditions.
Positions at Northwest Texas Healthcare System embody a commitment to continued professional development and offer a rewarding environment with solid support and benefits. The hospital fosters an inclusive and respectful workplace, where equal employment opportunities are available irrespective of race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability. This commitment to diversity is part of the broader Universal Health Services (UHS) family, a respected healthcare services leader with operations across the United States and abroad. The company offers a wide array of benefits, including competitive compensation, paid time off, healthcare plans, and career growth opportunities among its 300-plus subsidiaries, ensuring employees personalize success throughout their careers.
