Job Description
Our client operates a long-term care facility committed to providing a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for its residents. This type of healthcare establishment focuses on supporting individuals who require extended care due to medical conditions or age-related issues. Maintaining a hygienic and orderly environment is crucial to the health and well-being of all residents and staff at the facility.
The Housekeeper role in this facility plays an essential part in this mission by ensuring all public and private areas are immaculate throughout the day. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, consistency, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to uphold high housekeeping standards. Although this role does not carry supervisory responsibilities, it is vital in directly impacting the daily lives of residents by providing a clean and welcoming atmosphere.
Responsibilities include cleaning public spaces such as the lobby, restrooms, drinking fountains, and floors repeatedly throughout the day to maintain optimum cleanliness. Housekeepers are also responsible for resident rooms and bathrooms, ensuring that these areas remain sanitary and comfortable. Duties extend to cleaning and dusting all surfaces including walls, mirrors, windows, light fixtures, towel bars, and dispensers; emptying trash cans and replacing liners; sweeping and mopping floors; and maintaining handrails free of debris.
The use of proper safety measures during cleaning is emphasized, including the appropriate placement of caution signage and securely storing cleaning supplies and chemicals out of the reach of residents for their safety. Housekeeping equipment and carts must be maintained in a clinical, orderly, and safe manner following manufacturer instructions. Open communication with supervisory staff is paramount whenever safety issues arise or supplies need replenishment.
Successful candidates are expected to possess excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude to interact effectively with residents and team members. Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively underpin the smooth operation of housekeeping services.
To meet the role’s requirements, candidates need to have at least a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for experience working within a long-term care or similar healthcare setting. Familiarity with reading and understanding instruction manuals and written procedures is necessary, along with basic math skills. Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret instructions presented in various formats are required for effective task execution.
Physically, the role demands the capability to occasionally lift and move items up to 25 pounds, frequent sitting, standing, walking, and manual handling of cleaning equipment and supplies. The work environment typically features a low to moderate noise and smell level, characteristic of healthcare cleaning settings. Reasonable accommodations will be provided where necessary to support employees with disabilities.
This Housekeeper position is crucial for maintaining the facility's cleanliness, safety, and overall environment that supports the health of its residents, making it an impactful role within the healthcare community. The position's duties and responsibilities may evolve as necessary, allowing flexibility to meet the facility’s ongoing needs.
