Job Description

Our establishment is a long-term care facility committed to providing a safe, clean, and dignified living environment for our residents. We focus on maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and comfort in all areas of the facility including resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, and specialized rooms such as nurses stations and activity rooms. Our team works collaboratively to ensure that every aspect of the environment supports the health, safety, and well-being of our residents. The Housekeeper plays a critical role in achieving this mission by maintaining cleanliness and order throughout the facility.

The role of Housekeeper is essential in delivering a supportive atmosphere where residents can feel respected and cared for in their living spaces. Responsibilities include daily cleaning assignments such as resident rooms and bathrooms, as well as other designated areas like tub/shower rooms, kitchens, day rooms, lobbies, utility rooms, nurses stations, and linen areas. You will be required to follow strict infection control policies and procedures to minimize health risks and to report any needed repairs promptly to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

This full-time position values dependability and a strong work ethic, requiring physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching. The Housekeeper will work closely with the Housekeeping Supervisor and participate in weekly and monthly major housekeeping tasks as requested. This position demands that candidates have a neat and clean appearance, practice discretion and confidentiality in handling resident and facility information, and exhibit a respectful and empathetic communication style when interacting with residents, their families, and other staff members.

In addition to the demanding physical condition, the job requires excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and reading, to understand and carry out duties effectively. Educationally, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with relevant housekeeping experience in a long-term care or institutional setting, although not required. The successful candidate must demonstrate honesty and integrity while performing their duties and uphold the facility's values by respecting resident rights, dignity, and individuality at all times.

The Housekeeper must be prepared to react appropriately during emergencies or disaster situations, ensuring the safety and order of the facility are maintained. Attending in-service education and staff meetings as required contributes to continuous improvement and adherence to the facility’s housecleaning standards. Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Housekeeping experience in a long-term care facility or institutional setting preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical information
  • Able to communicate clearly in English
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff and outside agencies
  • Must be neat, clean and well-groomed
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, squat, pull, stoop and push up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress
  • Must meet general health requirements including annual TB screening and physical examination
  • Ability to react appropriately in emergencies

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Clean assignment of resident rooms and bathrooms daily as assigned in accordance with facility procedures
  • Keep resident rooms and contents clean and orderly in accordance with the wishes of the resident
  • Clean other areas of the facility daily as assigned including tub/shower rooms, offices, kitchen, day rooms, activity rooms, halls and lobby, utility rooms, nurses stations, linen areas
  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect when performing duties
  • Communicate courteously, considerately and cooperatively with all facility personnel, residents and public
  • Practice infection control policies and procedures
  • Secure cleaning chemicals in locked housekeeping cart or closet unless in use
  • Promptly report any needed repairs to Housekeeping Supervisor
  • Assist with weekly and monthly major housekeeping tasks when requested
  • React appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations
  • Attend in-service education and staff meetings as required
