The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is a renowned research and development facility that addresses the nation's most critical challenges in defense, security, space, and science. Situated in the Baltimore-Washington metro area, APL is widely recognized for pioneering new technologies and providing world-class expertise to support national security and scientific advancement. As an integral component of Johns Hopkins University, APL fosters an inclusive and vibrant workplace culture where diverse perspectives are valued and creativity is celebrated. The organization is committed to cultivating a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages personal growth, collaboration, and innovation among its employees. This commitment to a positive work atmosphere, combined with strong career development programs and comprehensive benefits, makes APL a sought-after employer in the research and defense sectors.
We are currently seeking a General Housekeeper to join our growing Housekeeping Group on the night shift. This professional role is pivotal in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across the APL campus. The successful candidate will join a hardworking team of dedicated housekeepers who work collaboratively with laboratory partners to deliver top-tier cleaning services with meticulous attention to detail. The role not only contributes significantly to the safety and functionality of the workspace but also supports the overarching mission of APL by enabling a pristine, well-maintained facility where groundbreaking research and development can thrive.
The General Housekeeper position involves a wide range of responsibilities including sweeping, scrubbing, and mopping floors made of hardwood, laminate, or tile, polishing furniture and room accessories, and managing waste disposal and recycling efforts throughout the laboratory. Additionally, the role entails sanitizing restroom facilities, cleaning windows and glass surfaces, ensuring public areas remain tidy, and reporting any needed repairs. Maintaining cleaning equipment, supplies, and ensuring their safe storage are critical aspects of the job. The position also requires proficiency with vacuuming and carpet maintenance equipment. Importantly, the role demands strict adherence to health and safety policies and laboratory protocols to protect both staff and the integrity of the facility.
This night shift role operates from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, Sunday through Thursday, with flexibility as needed. The compensation is competitive, with hourly wages ranging from $16.05 to $28.95, depending on experience and qualifications. At APL, we support our employees with an array of benefits including robust education assistance, retirement plans, health and dental insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development and training. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations and fostering an environment where every employee can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the mission of the laboratory.
