Job Description
Marriott International is a world-renowned hospitality company known for its exceptional portfolio of hotels and commitment to delivering outstanding guest experiences. Among its many renowned brands is Courtyard by Marriott, a hotel designed specifically with business travelers in mind. Courtyard aims to balance comfort, convenience, and efficiency, making it an ideal choice for guests seeking a seamless and productive stay. This particular position is located at the Courtyard Marriott at 2899 Richmond Hwy, Arlington, Virginia, a vibrant location catering to both business and leisure travelers. Marriott International embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering an environment where associates from diverse backgrounds are valued and celebrated. They also commit to providing equal opportunity employment and protecting the rights of their employees under applicable laws.
The position is a full-time, non-management role within the engineering and facilities department, focused primarily on preventative maintenance throughout the hotel's public spaces, meeting rooms, guest rooms, and other relevant hotel departments. The compensation range is $21.50 to $22.00 per hour, offering competitive pay aligned with industry standards for this level of responsibility.
The primary responsibility of this role is to perform scheduled preventative maintenance activities such as mattress flipping and inspection, bed frame assembly, vacuuming behind and beneath furniture, spot cleaning carpets and upholstery, dusting, touch-up painting and furniture repair, and ensuring that all hardware and appliances in guest rooms are functional. The role also involves the replacement of light fixtures, inspection and repair of grout and caulking, and minor repairs like tightening loose toilet seats, changing light bulbs, and patching holes in walls. Additionally, this position requires thorough general cleaning of all guestroom surfaces including tubs, wall tiles, hard floors, walls, windows, and mirrors.
Attention to detail is crucial as this role demands adherence to property room preventive maintenance procedures and standards. Any serious maintenance issues, unusual findings, or safety hazards must be reported immediately to supervisors. The role requires physical activity including bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds independently, with occasional assistance when heavier lifting is involved. Employees will stand, sit, or walk for extended periods or entire shifts.
Safety, compliance, and service are pillars of this role. Employees must adhere to all company safety and security policies, report unsafe conditions, complete safety trainings, and maintain a clean, professional appearance. Maintaining confidentiality of proprietary company information and protecting assets is mandatory. The role places a strong emphasis on delivering exemplary guest service by welcoming guests warmly, anticipating and meeting their needs, and fostering positive relationships with coworkers to achieve common goals. This commitment ensures Courtyard guests experience a welcoming, well-maintained, and comfortable environment throughout their stay.
Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and less than one year of related work experience. No supervisory experience or licenses/certifications are required. This entry-level maintenance role allows individuals who are eager to learn and contribute within a reputed hospitality brand to develop their skills and grow professionally within Marriott's global network. The position encourages teamwork, continuous improvement, and pride in providing outstanding maintenance support that enhances guest satisfaction.
