Job Description
HonorHealth is a leading nonprofit healthcare system based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a rich history dating back to 1927. As one of the largest healthcare providers in the state, HonorHealth is committed to delivering exceptional patient care with a culture grounded in warmth, neighborly kindness, and a deep dedication to the health and well-being of individuals and communities across the greater Phoenix area. The organization supports a wide network of hospitals, outpatient centers, and specialized healthcare services, all focused on improving patient outcomes and advancing medical excellence.
At HonorHealth, the Environmental Service Associate position plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is based in Deer Valley at 50 E Dunlap Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85020, operating evening shifts from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm with variable days. As part of the Waste Management category, the Environmental Service Associate ensures all patient care areas meet stringent sanitation standards and contribute to an overall high-quality patient experience.
The Environmental Service Associate is responsible for a variety of essential housekeeping and support functions within the patient care unit. This includes stocking linens and supplies, cleaning bathrooms, waiting areas, and other common spaces, as well as transporting trash and linens to designated collection points. The role demands a professional and compassionate approach to maintain patient dignity and satisfaction while adhering to protocols for cleanliness and safety. Staff members are expected to perform thorough cleaning routines, including checkout room cleaning according to department guidelines and proper disposal of hazardous and infectious waste.
Beyond routine cleaning, the Environmental Service Associate conducts morning and evening patient room rounds to address housekeeping needs, remove clutter, and refresh bathrooms. The individual responds promptly to patient requests for housekeeping and hospitality support, ensuring that patient comfort is prioritized. Maintaining cleanliness of medical equipment, staging equipment for pickup, and monitoring corridor clutter also form key responsibilities. Participation in patient safety rounding and monitoring for patient distress enhances the collaborative healthcare environment.
The position involves handling cleaning chemicals according to precise dilution instructions to achieve optimal cleaning results without damaging surfaces. Proper use and maintenance of departmental equipment and housekeeping carts are essential duties, supported by regular inspections to uphold operational standards. Additional duties may include tasks assigned by supervisors that contribute to the effective functioning of the unit.
Ideal candidates have at least a high school diploma or GED, though a certificate with less than high school education is acceptable. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, typically six months or more, and for positions requiring driving, having a valid Arizona driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary. Staff members must complete defensive driving training provided by HonorHealth when applicable.
HonorHealth values the contributions of every team member and offers a supportive work environment where your career can thrive. The healthcare system is dedicated to investing in the professional growth and well-being of its employees, making it a great place to build a meaningful and rewarding career in healthcare support services.
