Job Description
Community Memorial Healthcare is a reputable, community-owned, not-for-profit health system committed to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the residents of west Ventura County. Established in 2005 through the merger of Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura and Ojai Valley Community Hospital, the health system operates two hospitals and a network of primary and specialty care health centers. It proudly earned the 2026 Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades, placing Community Memorial Hospital among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide and recognizing its dedication to patient experience excellence. Without the influence of corporate or government ownership, Community Memorial Healthcare responds directly to the needs and welfare of the communities it serves, focusing on compassionate, patient-centered care.
The role of Environmental Services Technician I (EVS Technician I) at Community Memorial Healthcare is a full-time position with an 8-hour day shift and variable start times. This position is vital in maintaining cleanliness, safety, and sanitation throughout the hospital, helping ensure a healing environment aligned with the hospital's quality standards and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The technician’s duties include cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms, surgical and procedural areas, bathrooms, laboratories, offices, hallways, and other hospital spaces, with a focus on patient safety and infection control.
Employees in this role are responsible for maintaining environmental services supplies, ordering equipment as needed, and adhering to proper procedures when handling and disposing of biohazardous waste. An essential aspect of the job involves cleaning rooms occupied by patients with COVID-19 and other communicable diseases, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves. Community Memorial Healthcare takes employee health seriously, providing PPE, training, and education to protect staff and patients alike.
The salary range for this role is $24.00 per hour, with individual placement in the range depending on factors such as specific skills, qualifications, experience, and internal comparisons. New hires are typically placed below the midpoint of the pay range. This role requires the ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English, understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) related to chemical handling, as well as the physical capability to lift and move varying weights regularly, frequently, and occasionally. Good interpersonal skills to interact with patients, healthcare staff, and customers in a professional and courteous manner are essential.
Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and prior experience in housekeeping, janitorial services, or a related field. Applicants must submit a resume or detailed employment history to be considered. The position contributes directly to the hospital’s mission of extraordinary patient care supported by extraordinary teams.
Community Memorial Healthcare offers a comprehensive benefits package to support employees and their families, reflecting its commitment to promoting health and wellness for its workforce. Benefits include competitive pay, shift differentials, in-house registry rates, a Fidelity 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, voluntary worksite benefits, an employee assistance program available 24/7, tuition reimbursement, public service loan forgiveness, various recognition programs, service recognition events, and multiple discounts on home, retail, travel, and entertainment. The health system also celebrates National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and belonging. Community Memorial Healthcare is an equal opportunity employer encouraging diversity across all protected categories and strives for a welcoming workplace for all employees.
